I have to say that I agree with changing the Vueling flight to get into CPH the night before. Anything can happen and if Vueling is even 10 minutes late, that would lower his chances of getting on that Delta flight by a very high margin.
One more question if you don't mind.
Anyone know of a cheap hotel that's very close to the CPH airport?
