Trains from Rome to Sorrento

From reading posts it sounds like taking the high-speed train (Eurostar?)Rome to Naples, then catching the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento would be the best choices. Can you buy reserved-seat tickets at the tobacco shops, etc? What's the cost of 1st or 2nd class seats? How long a trip, Rome to Naples? then how long to Sorrento ? Thanks for your help.
Roberto

Roberto,
you MUST buy and reserve seat tickets for the train EUROSTAR Rome - Naples. The trip is long less than 2 hours.
You cannot reserve seats for Circumvesuviana; you must buy tickets and the cost is 2,84 euro ( Naples - Sorrento one way ). The trip is long fifty minutes by "direttissimo" train: the fastest.
Timetable of direttissimi from Naples to Sorrento are: 6:40, 8:11, 13:41, 17:41. Many other trains are not "direttissimi" and the trip is long seventy minutes. There are about 40 trains in a day.
Have a nice trip.

Also, remember that it is best to book the Eurostar seats a couple of days in advance, or you will not easily find a seat.

We have used the Italian high-speed trains twice...1999 & 2002...both were excellent experiences...brought tickets AND seat assignments BEFORE We left USA; strongly recommend this approach

It is my understanding that train tickets purchased in US are considerably more expensive than purchased in Italy, especially if bought through Rail Europe.
