Go to the website of Trenitalia (www.trenitalia.com), look for the connection (you have to choose the "international" tab), register at the site and go through the process.
Alternatively, wait until you are in Venice and buy the ticket - but for a date like 2.1.2007 (just after new year) many people will return to work in Germany and especially night trains might be booked out.

Please spell out your date. 1/2/07 is January 2, 2007 in the USA. In the rest of the world it is 1 February 2007.

lol...

sorry about that hopscotch...
in fact, i assumed the majority on this forum were from america...so, i attempted to format it for them!

see what happens?
too funny.

yes, the date is, in fact, jan 2nd, 2007.

thanks for the help, tho. i imagined that was the best alternative [ie, trenitalia]...

i would love to hear if anyone else has another opinion, however!

I checked the German Rail site www.bahn.de for you. Here is a link to the night schedule you are interested in. http://tinyurl.com/umzsm. Notice that dates are written dd/mm/yy on this site, and throughout Europe.

Neither the price nor booking is available to us in the USA from this website. I would guess that this trip would cost about €150 in second class plus about €30 for the required bunk reservation. Night trains in Italy and Germany are very nice, and secure. See the web page http://tinyurl.com/y57vft for an introduction to traveling on night trains.

You can normally make the reservation from any train station or travel agent in Europe. I don't think you will have difficulty getting a reservation but do it as soon as you get to Europe. International ticket offices normally accept plastic, V/MC/Amex and others.
