anyway it could be a nice walk from Deutsches Eck - head to the Old Town - walk west along the Mosel and then just inland - then thru the shopping street almost to the train station - a lovely varied walk - the smaller Rhine towns I find pretty much the same - nice but if you have time - do the Rhine towns first - take the K-D boats to Koblenz' - see map - walk up to Deutsches Eck - perhaps take the cable car up to the top of the fortress across the Rhine - then amble over to the Old Town for a beverage or snack or proper restaurant - then for a spot of shopping - to Koblenz's trains station for trains right back to Boppard. Actually the best of the Rhine is south of Boppard - between it and Rudesheim/Bingen so make that a separate day.
Koblenz can easily be combined with a look at Cochem and the Mosel - boats leave May thru Sep or so about 9:30 am from Koblenz to go to Cochem along a gorgeously scenic stretch of Mosel Valley - spend a few hours bopping around Cochem - maybe head to the Hieronimi Winery for a taste of those vaunted Mosel white wines -

Check out the fine castle perhaps - it's Ersatz but that makes it much dreamier to me.
Then take the train back to Koblenz - amble over to Deutsches Eck from the train station and get a boat back to Boppard.

I am also wondering if I should get a global pass of some kind instead of purchasing individual tickets. After Boppard well be going to Strasbourg France, Stuttgart (just for a day), Munich, then over to Venice, Florence, Nocelle, and Rome.>
Just to clarify - a Global Pass is overkill - covers 28 or so countries - you only need a Eurail Select (Saver if two or more traveling together) Pass valid in France, Germany, Austria and Italy (Munich to Venice goes thru a tit of Austria).
