train travel options

i'm planning my honeymoon for july and my fiancee and i are staing in paris most of the time, but we want to take a couple of day trips as well. we will be travelling to bayeux and spending a night there to see the Normandy sites, and we would also like to take a daytrip to Geneva so that we can see some of the countryside on the train and also visit the old city.

my question is would it be cheaper to get tickets when we get there, or should i get the 4 day eurail pass?

i tried looking up costs on sncf.com, but it didn't work and i was just really confused. any help would be great. thanks!!

Hi cozart,

Did you know that the train trip from Paris to Geneva will take about 3h22? Quite a long daytrip -- seven hours on the train! Maybe you should investigate a budget airline like Easyjet or save Geneva for another trip.

For only two daytrips it might be less expensive to buy point-to-point tickets after you arrive.

You can go to www.pass.com and input your interary to get a general idea of costs.

swandav,

i just found that out, actually. that's a lot of time on a train for one day.

what about other day trip locations? are there any that are closer that will still let us see some of the french countryside and still go to an interesting city? i've heard chartres is beautiful, what are thoughts on going there instead of geneva?
