Train travel from Monguelfo to Gallarette in Italy

We would be travelling from Monguelfo to Gallarette in November and was wondering which would be the cheapest train tickets to book. Should I book now or really wait for discounted rates if there are any? Any help will be much appreciated!

Do you mean Monguelfo-Casies Welsberg-Gsies to Gallarate? Because if so it will take all day. Some of the trains are regionals which don't need to be booked ahead, others should be booked ahead.

Look at Trenitalia for routing and prices. See https://www.seat61.com/Europe-train-tickets.htm for general info on buying tickets.

You take a regional train to Fortezza

then EC train to Milan Centrale

then regional train to Gallarette

Regional trains have a flat fare - dirt cheap -no discounts -just buy on day of travel

But EC trains will have significant discounts - book early-see www.trenitalia.com for full and discounted fares and book your own ducat there.

For lots on Italian trains check www.seat61.com (great advice on discounted ticketing in Italy); general info -www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Trip will take between 6-7 hours a quick search on Trenitalia.com says including down time between trains.

discounted tickets are non-changeable and I think non-refundable - see how much you will save - on those routes it may not be that much and also check 1st class as sometimes those tickets discounted may not be that much less than the cheapest available 2nd class ducats.

Rent a car. It will take less time than all those train connections.

Thank you all for the prompt replies.thursdaysd, PalenQ those websites are really useful! I guess we will book now in advance for the Fortezza- Milan ticket and the rest on the regional ones later on that day, as suggested by PalenQ. kybourbon, it sure is a trip with a lot of connections but then renting a car from monguelfo and then returning it in Gallerette

Seems quite daunting. We hope to enjoy some Italian scenery on the train ride to compensate for the changes. I was also wondering that even in the case of theFortezza- Milan trip I do see one single change at least. In case the first train is delayed, that means we will have to let go of the next train tickets which is a disadvantage really

Take an earlier train to be safe.

How late in November are you traveling?

Can I ask what is drawing you to Gallarate? Is it to spend the night near Malpensa?

FWIW, a car rental wouldn't be an easy option for what you want to do as there are no rental offices in either Monguelfo or Gallarate, so you'd have to go to Brunico or Bolzano to pick up the car and then drop it at Malpensa. Then again, I'm a little surprised you're planning to stay in Monguelfo without a car.

Hi Jean, we are travelling on the 4th of November. We thought that the public transport available in monguelfo would hopefully suffice. Yes Gallertte is basically so that we can easily get to malpensea for the early morning flight

Well why not take the Malpensa Express from Milan Centrale to the airport and stay in a hotel there -lot quicker than going to Gallerte. And you'd be right at the airport vicinity.

You should research the public trans options in the Monguelfo area at that time of year to insure you'll be able to go where you want to go and return to Monguelfo. How are you getting to Monguelfo and where would you be coming from?

It's your trip, but I'd rather spend the last night in Milan. Were you thinking of taking a taxi to the airport or had something specific you wanted to see in Gallarate? The quick trains from Gallarate to Malpensa don't run very frequently, and the less quick trains from Gallarate take much longer than any of the trains from Milan to the airport. If you left Monguelfo early, you'd have several hours to explore Milan.

Get a car service to take you to Fortezza and spend the night in Milan. Buses & trains to the airport start running in time early in the morning to get you to Malpensa for international flights.

Your hotel on Monguelfo should be able to arrange a reasonable price for a car service to Fortezza in November

I realize you didn't ask this, but if you are going to this part of the Dolomiti mountain range for the scenery, November can mean rain and overcast skies that obscures the scenery.
