Took three websites to figure this out; I don't know why sncf.com and renfe.es are both so unfriendly with international travel fares and schedules.

Aix en Provence to Montpellier via Marseilles - - about 2.5 hours and 23 euro (2nd class) - - with a 3 hr long connection in Montpellier.

And then, from www.renfe.es, the Catalan Talgo, Montpellier to Barcelona - - and even here I cannot find a fare. RailEurope shows $53 USD - - so it will be less than that.

Best wishes,

Rex
Managed to find the Montpellier to Barcelona fare: 60.1 Euros for 1st class, 42.1 Euros for 2d.

You would leave Aix at 14:02 and get to Barcelona at 21:48.

http://www.renfe.es/viajes/precios_i....html#-Opcion4
The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Timetable. Tables 362 and 90 have your trains.
First Rex's day connection, with three hours in Montpellier. Aix 1117, Marseilles 1150 to 1239, Montpellier drop luggage at left luggage and walk or taxi into town,1417 to 1714, buffet car train, Barcelona 2148. I cannot find a connection for the train from Aix at 1402
Now the only other connection, giving a poor night of just five hours sleep. Aix by bus, Marseilles 0103, train with 4 berth couchettes, Port Bou 0614 to 0735, buffet car train, Barcelona 0942. If they pay, they can have a longer night. Aix 1838, Marseilles 1923 to 1950, good views of the Riviera, sup in the buffet car, Antibes 2210 to 2244, train with 4 berth couchettes, Port Bou 0614 to 0735, buffet car train, Barcelona 0942.

There may be an extra connection in summer, but I doubt it.

Please write if I can help further.

Ben Haines, London

Good job, jahoulih.

This page is also available there in English:

http://www.renfe.es/ingles/viajes/precios_int_barna.htmlpcion4

And I don't know how I missed that 14:03 departure deom Aix en Pce; I was thinking they had to take the 12:00 departure and wait from 14:19 to 17:14.
For June 9, 2003, www.bahn.de shows a 14:01 departure from Aix, arriving in Marseilles at 14:41. Then there's a train leaving Marseilles at 15:05 and arriving in Montpellier at 16:44. Nothing turns up on that date for Montpellier to Barcelona, as RENFE (Spanish Rail) doesn't seem to have announced its schedule beyond March 31, but I think it's a good bet that the 17:14-21:48 connection will still be there, give or take a couple of minutes.
