Train to Mont St Michel

Is there a train from Paris to Mont St Michel? Is it possible to both D-Day Beaches and Mont St Michel in a day from Paris? I am trying to avoid renting a car from Paris but I will if I have to.

I'm not sure about the train because we did have a rental car, but we started in Paris in the morning and went to Normandy and on to Mont St. Michel and arrived about noon. We stayed there that night and it was one of the highlights of our trip.

Randy, can you provide more specifics about the times of your trip? Like, what time did you leave Paris and arrive in the Normandy area? How long did you spend at the beaches? How long was the drive from Normandy to Mont St Michel? I am planning the same trip myself and hope to be able to reach Mont St Michel before dark. Also, did you drive back from Mont St Michel to paris, and how long did it take? I was considering renting a car for the first day, but then taking a train back to paris, since there doesn't seem to be too much going the other way.

Thanks!!

Randy: I forgot to ask if you visited the museum in Caen and how long you spent at the beaches.

My husband and I are also gonig to be visiting Mont St Michel and the D-Day beaches. We will be staying in Bayeux which is very near the beaches. We'll arrive from Paris in the morning via train and spend that day in Bayeux. The next day we'll visit the D Day beaches after picking up our rental car. I understand it's much easier to get around by car versus depending on trains or busses. You have the flexibility in having a car versus a limited train or bus schedule.

The following day, we'll be driving to Mont St Michel, which I understand is only a 2 hour drive. I'm hoping that those 2 full days will be sufficient for Normandy. Probably not, but that's all we have for that area as we will be spending time in Paris and Provence. So to answer your question Charles, no, I don't believe one day for both locations is doable in one day. Way too much. If you can, spend a couple of days in Bayeux or Caen and do day trips from there.

For everyone's information here, I had found a web site (hope it's still on the web) for the tide schedule at Mont St Michel: http://normandy-tourism.org/w/ville/Marees.html
