Randy, can you provide more specifics about the times of your trip? Like, what time did you leave Paris and arrive in the Normandy area? How long did you spend at the beaches? How long was the drive from Normandy to Mont St Michel? I am planning the same trip myself and hope to be able to reach Mont St Michel before dark. Also, did you drive back from Mont St Michel to paris, and how long did it take? I was considering renting a car for the first day, but then taking a train back to paris, since there doesn't seem to be too much going the other way.

Thanks!!

My husband and I are also gonig to be visiting Mont St Michel and the D-Day beaches. We will be staying in Bayeux which is very near the beaches. We'll arrive from Paris in the morning via train and spend that day in Bayeux. The next day we'll visit the D Day beaches after picking up our rental car. I understand it's much easier to get around by car versus depending on trains or busses. You have the flexibility in having a car versus a limited train or bus schedule.

The following day, we'll be driving to Mont St Michel, which I understand is only a 2 hour drive. I'm hoping that those 2 full days will be sufficient for Normandy. Probably not, but that's all we have for that area as we will be spending time in Paris and Provence. So to answer your question Charles, no, I don't believe one day for both locations is doable in one day. Way too much. If you can, spend a couple of days in Bayeux or Caen and do day trips from there.

For everyone's information here, I had found a web site (hope it's still on the web) for the tide schedule at Mont St Michel: http://normandy-tourism.org/w/ville/Marees.html
