Train time from Zagreb to Ljubljana?

Hi everyone, I just bought a train ticket from Zagreb to Ljubljana. I didn't think to ask how long it took because all online sources say it's 2-3 hours. However, the receptionist at my hostel said it takes 7 hours and I should've gone for the bus. Can anyone clarify? Thanks!

What does your ticket say?

Or use this site: http://www.bahn.de/p_en/view/index.shtml

Looks like your hotel is wrong. And maybe you are on a bus not a train anyway.

The ticket may not be for a specific train, so it may not tell you the travel time.

Should take only about 2.5 hours. That's how long it took me to go from Ljubljana to Zagreb by train a few years ago.

I have an open-time ticket so there's no time indicated. And I'm pretty sure it's a train as I bought it at the train station
The tourist info centre at the bus station told me it takes 2 hours 15 minutes by bus. Didn't bother asking at the train station because I figured it would be about the same, if not faster. Seven hours just doesn't make sense.

If you look at the site I linked you will that some of the "trains" are in fact buses.

In any case, the DB site shows it's 2-3 hours either way. Guess the receptionist was wrong. Thanks!

No they aren't. The DB Bahn site simply lists (some) buses as well as trains that go from Zagreb to Ljubljana. The trains leave Zagreb from the train station; the buses leave from the bus station, which is not adjacent to the train station.

I would rest assured that a ticket bought at the train station can be used on the trains to Ljubljana and probably can't be used on the bus even if you wanted to.

The Bahn site is great for checking general schedules, but I always confirm with an official website from one of the countries that actually run the trains. I have found inaccuracies on the Bahn site before (e.g. Polish trains), so I never rely on them for exact times unless it's a German train.

Here's a more reliable site showing Zagreb - Ljubljana train schedules:

http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/passe...croatia/zagreb

There seem to be five trains a day from Zagreb and Ljubljana at the moment.

It only takes 2h18 to 2h37 or so by train.

It's a lovely scenic journey, along the River Sava, enjoy.

Use www.bahn.de/en for train times - just avoid anything marked 'bus' as this isn't a train.

Buy a ticket (if you haven't already) at the station, it cannot be booked online. It only costs €18 or so by train, any day any date.

I certainly wouldn't want to slum it in a cramped downmarket long-distance bus when there's a proper train line!
