train pass within paris
I have 3 days in paris.
the 1st day is hectic. I arrive at CDG..booked a hotel near orly airport as I have to take the next day early flight out of orly! for the 1st day my plan is to - go from cdg to orly hotel check in come back to city ....tour around (My first visit to Paris!) and go back to orly in the night. Can you please suggest a train pass for me which covers these zones. Also I got an advice of taking air france bus from CDG to Orly. But for the rest of the day have to take trains.
Another day I'm planning to go to Versailes..come back in the evening and roam around in the city. 3rd day Eiffel tower, arc de triompe and champs elyss is on my list. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

The public transportation system in Paris is excellent and easy to figure out. It's very similar to London if you're familiar with that. You can buy a three day rail pass which you will want to cover at least up to zone five which includes the airports. You can buy these at rail stations and probably at the airport. We've never flown into Paris so I can't say for sure. The pass starts to run at the time of your first use.All of the sites you mention have well-marked stops. Versaille is about a 45 minute train ride and runs several times a day. Be sure you keep a route map handy and they are marked in the trains and stations. Have a great trip.

For the "convenience" of staying the last night near Orly, all you'll be doing is riding on trains. It sounds like you have 3 nights in Paris. Why don't you spend two nights in Paris and go to Orly for the last night before your flight? Believe me, you'll spend way more time on the trains than you will for packing and unpacking an extra time for the one night stay at Orly.
By the way you will spend a lot of time commuting to Orly. You take the subway to the Orlyval stop. Wait for the Orlyval train. Take the Orlyval to the airport. Wait for your hotel shuttle to come pick you up. Take the shuttle to your hotel. Do that twice a day and you've easily burned a couple of hours you could have been IN Paris.
You did say this will be your first time in Paris. Don't spend most of one of the days getting to/from and around Versailles. There's so much to see in Paris itself you'll just cheat yourself out of that for another train ride to Versailles.

You itinerary is a little complicated to me, but basically I think some kind of zone 4 pass will work for you. Both Orly and Versailles are in RER zone 4, so that will cover all the trips you need. Only exception is CDG is in zone 5, but I also would really suggest you take the AF shuttle bus from CDG to Orly rather than public transport on the RER/metro/Orlyval or whatever.
the Paris Visite tourist pass would be simple (no photo needed, any 3 days start) and would cost 37 euro for 3 days, 5 zones (no zone 4). Buying three all-day single day passes called Mobilis for zones 1-4 would be about 9 euro per day or 27 euro total (no photo needed, it's just a ticket). That's what I would do. Only catch is I think the Mobilis doesn't work at the actual Orly airport RER stop itself (you can check on that), but if your hotel is just nearby, that would work.

Hi JB,
I think you are planning to arrive in Paris and fly out of Orly the next day.
You will then go to Versailles for a day and return to Paris for one day.
I would not make a point of going to Versailles, unless you have to, but to spend that day in Paris. There is too much to do.
Here is my suggestion or your immediate problem. I hope others can tell you if this is a good way.
Go to http://adp.fr/
Click on "welcome" in the lower left corner. Click "passenger Services". Click "Access". Click "access by the RER B". You will see that both CDG and Orly are on the RER B line.
Take the train to the Gare du Nord stop. Leave your baggeage. See the city. Return to the Gare du Nord and go to Orly.
Good luck on your whirlwind trip.
