Train from Prague to Vienna?
We are going to take a train from Prague to Vienna in September. I've looked at some train schedules and there seems to be so many different trains. We want to get to Vienna as fast as possible, little or no stops, don't mind paying more. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Timetable. Table 60 shows that there are direct trains, with no change, but all the trains stop briefly four times on the way. Prague has two stations for Vienna. The 1047 from Holesovice is a good choice. Holesovice seems not to have the pickpockets in gangs of three who are a pest in Hlavni station, and the timing lets you lunch in the restaurant car and snooze before you reach Vienna South at 1529. Other departures from Holesovice are 1447, and 1758: all have restaurant cars and take five hours. The fare is the same on all of them.

We just booked Prague Holesovice to Vienna Sudbahnhof leaving 10:58. First class, with service charge included is 60 US dollars. Per many recommendations at this site and by Palace Hotel, we contacted www.cedok.cz. They will deliver tickets to hotel.
In spite of all the trains I saw scheduled on web, they only recommended 3 a day. You have to be careful not to take a train that involves changing trains along the way, with very short connection times.
Second class costs around $45, as a I remember.

The trains arrive in Praha-Holesovice at 10:47 (from Dresden) and 14:47 (from Hamburg).

If you would like to try the same journey on the RailEurope site and the German Rail site I think you will find that RailEurope selects only some trains.
Oh, what disgrace. I read the arrival tine, 1047, when we needed the departure time, 1058. Will I ever live this this down ?

We took the same train as Aleta in May. However, we went to Cedok's office and bought our tickets, then walked to the Mucha Museum which we loved. We continued to Wenceslas Square, where we had lunch at an outside cafe, after which we did some window shopping and ultimately ended up at the big market. Made a pleasant day.
