TRAIN FROM PARIS TO BRUGGE, BELGIUM

I'm thinking I might like to take the train from Paris to Brugge for a day but don't want to make advanced plans until I arrive Paris. What train line goes? Who do I contact? Anyone know the cost?

Its easy. The fastest way is to take the Thaly's high speed train from, I believe, Gare de Nord into Brussels Midi. That takes about 90 miutes. Then a train to Brugge. They leave hourly from Brussels and the ride is an hour long. Once you're at Brugge you'll se that the train station is just outside the town walls. You could probably wait until you get to Paris, but you will need reservations for the Thalys, no exception. The Thalys is Belgium's high speed train. Unless it is a holiday week end or you're going at a peak time you can probably make reservations the day before.

Just an addition - there are two trains to Bruges leaving from Brussels each hour, as well as two returning.

When planning your trip, you should try to make it for Tuesday to Friday. Brugge is packed on the weekends--though mostly in the shopping area around the Markt--and a lot of museums are closed on Mondays

As noted above, the trains depart from Gare du Nord. If you are not travelling at peak time, you can just buy the reservation when you buy your ticket before departure.
