Train from Madrid to Spain

We are a family traveling to Spain this March. It would be great to take the train, but it seems rather expensive for our family. Is there a speacial rate for a family as we had in Italy? Just wondering is anyone has any ideas about this. Thanks, Judy

Sorry, I don't understand your post. Since Madrid is in Spain you wouldn't need a train. Are you trying to get to Madrid from somewhere outside of Spain?
Please be more specific if you want an answer.
Judy, just bringing this to the top for u. I don't think the last post understood. When we were in Spain, the train from Madrid to Avilia, then on to northeast Spain was REALLY cheap, but can't remember the $. Hopefully, this "topper" will connect. I think Judy is looking for something like the Italian online rail sites. mike.

I agree Art, the post title doesn't make sense! Definitly a case of incorrect wording.

Judy,

The faster trains in Spain (TALGO, AVE) are very comfortable and very fast for long-distance journeys.....

BUT for shorter journeys, the railway is often not very direct, and the trains not particularly comfortable. It is often faster by express bus, and they are very comfortable and cheap.

In October, I travelled from Madrid to Salamanca in two hours by bus for £8 (er $12 ?) . I sat in a single leather armchair and watched (intermittently) a video and listened to the radio. The train was slower and more expensive.

Chris

For train fares, see www.renfe.es
