I took the train from Madrid to Lisbon last August. If you are going in August prepare for problems and delays. We couldn't get the train we wanted and then we couldn't get a bed. We had to sit in seats for the whole 12 hours. The train took 2 hours longer than scheduled. I don't remember the price. Be sure to reserve as soon as possible for the summer.

Dear Dani,

I have never taken the train from Lisbon to Madrid but it is on my list of "to-dos" in the near future since I live here in Portugal. I got all the information I needed by going to the webpage of the Portuguese railways. The address is http://www.cp.pt./p_index.html

I agree that if you are planning to go in July or August, make a reservation asap. Especially if you want a sleeping car. I also know that the train is usually a night train, leaving Lisbon around 10pm and arriving in Madrid at 8 or 9am.
Good luck and if you need any other info regarding travel in Portugal, please feel free to email me directly.
