Train from Interlaken to Paris

We will be in the Grindelwald for 5 days in early September, then traveling to Paris by train for 3 days...any suggestions on taking the train at night, or is the ride scenic enough that it's worth spending the 7 hours on the train in daylight?

Thanks for your help!!

Once you get to Bern, I would not describe the journey as fantastically scenic -- it is fine, but nothing spectacular. You can take a train from Interlaken to Bern and then the TGV from Bern to Paris -- it might not take quite as long as 7 hours. I can't recall the total journey time from when we did that trip two years ago.

trish:

Your best connections would be these with only one transfer at Bern. The legs from Bern to Paris are on TGVs:

Interlaken Ost dp 07:04 15:39
Bern ar 08:04 16:33
Bern dp 08:32 17:00
Paris ar 13:21 21:47

All connections with sleeper trains have at least 2 transfers, and the resting period in the sleeper would be around 5 hours; not very refreshing in my opinion.

Enjoy your trip

Phil.

Sorry about the poor alignment; it definitely looked better in compose mode . Just read the times from top to bottom in each squiggly column.

The quickest travel time from Grindelwald to Paris is a little over 7 hours, involving several changes. From Grindelwald, your choices are to leave at 5:54, 9:50, 12:50, 13:50, and 14:50. The 14:50 train arrives in Paris at 21:47.

If you go by a night train, you could spend up to 14 hours on the train.
The shortest travel time is 10 hours and involves 4 changes: Interlaken Ost, Bern, Olten, and Basel. In Basel you have a fair walk to another train at midnight. Then you spend 6 more hours getting to Paris.

Do you think the night train is worth the extra time, and all the changes?

thanks for all the responses...

We definitely don't think the night train is the way to go...we've decided to spend one night in Bern, then take the first TGV train in the morning to Paris, arriving around 1PM..

Again, I really appreciate all your help!!
