Train from Interlaken to Nice - help needed

I plan to leave Interlaken on Tuesday, August 8, going to Nice. The "best" route I've been able to find is a train from Geneva to Nice: 13:36 (leave) -- TGV 6818 -- 20:06 (arrive). But it's 4 hours from Interlaken to Geneva, all daytime travel. I would love to find an overnight train or at least something less than an 11 hour ride. Thank you in advance if you have any suggestions.

The best route I could find using the timetables at www.bahn.de is Interlaken Ost - Spiez - Milano Centrale - Nice Ville. Leave Interlaken at 07:25 and arrive in Nice at 16:01.

kkt,

Basel airport is a 2.5 hour train/bus ride and Geneva airport is a 3 hour train ride from Interlaken. With the cheap airfares, your journey should be at least as cheap as taking the train the whole way.

www.rail.ch

Both airports have service to Nice on Easyjet

www.easyjet.com

and Geneva also has service on Fly Baboo

www.flybaboo.com

Service from Geneva is much more frequent.

On August 8th, the best fares (per person all in) to Nice are currently as follows:
From Geneva on EasyJet: CHF 78
From Basel on EasyJet): CHF 125

The cheapest EasyJet flight from Geneva to Nice leaves at 20:20 and arrives in Nice at 21:20. You would need to take the 15:56 train from Interlaken Ost, arriving at Geneva airport at 18:59 (change in Bern). Total travel time: 5 hours 24 minutes.

Do note EasyJet's luggage policy: 1 piece of hand luggage (NO WEIGHT LIMIT as long as it meets the size requirements and you can lift it yourself) and 1 piece of checked luggage weighing NO MORE THAN 20 KG.

Hope this helps,
Andre

Hi kk,

See if this works:

Take the 18:25 from Interlaken Ost to Bern.

Take the 20:04 from Bern to Nice.

Dep Bern 20:04
Arr Basl SBB 20:59
Dep Basel SNCF 21:25
Arr Mulhouse 21:51
Dep Mulhouse 22:07
Arr Nice Ville 09:11

The last train is a sleeper.
