Train from Barcelona to Nice

I am planning a 3-week trip in October arriving and departing Barcelona. Would taking the train from Barcelona to Nice be an interesting trip? Can the trip be made (one way, of course) in one day during the daylight hours? Although we have driven this route, I think the train would a great way to go if it is doable. Thanks for any input! I really rely on this board for my trip-planning.

Jane, I did this 3 years ago but we took the train at night as we were heading to Nice and then onto Italy. The daytime portion wasn't particularly interesting as I recall. And it was a long trip. But maybe there is an express that we didn't have?

Wendy, Thank you for responding. Did you have to change trains in France? Barcelona to Nice doesn't seem to be a very direct route. I can find info on Spanish trains and on French trains but I am not quite sure how they connect up! I know I need to do more research, but I was hoping to get an easy answer.

The day train will take about 10 hours. You can find the information on this web site:

Thank you, Michael. What a great web site! Has anyone here made the trip in the day time? Or would we be better off flying?? I really like the European trains, though.
