Here is a website for tourist info: http://www.vgv-baumholder.de/english/index_e.htm Click on things to do, then accomomodation. Only 5 to pick from but it's a start. You can get from Frankfurt Hbf to Idar-Oberstein bahnhof in a little under 2 hours. You can look at schedules here: http://www.bahn.de & click in International Guests

Trains run about hourly to Idar-Oberstein just a few miles from Baumholder - there are buses from the station to Baumholder in case you want to save a bit of money for taxi. The www.bahn.de site will give you all the details of the train and bus times. Ask your fiancee to find out what hotels are near the base - usually a flock but not if it's a small base.

Hey There,
I saw your messege. I am from Baumholder...I'm a military wife. Trains leave from Frankfurt in Terminal 1 every hour. Just follow the signs which are usually posted in yellow or orange to find which platform you will need to be on. You will take the train all the way to Idar Oberstein. What unit is your fiance in?? Find out if one of the wives from his unit can come get you...Idar is only about 20 min from base. Also there are a bunch of little hotels/restaurants right by post. They will all be easy for your fiance to get the numbers to to book you a reservation. Hotel Berghof, Zum Stern, and have him check to Logerhof which is the hotel on post to see if they have openings. There is also a Holiday in attached to the airport. That will be cheap and easy for you to stay in if you will have enough time to catch some sleep before your train ride if you want. Let me know if you need more info. And don't be nervous...I have traveled alone in Germany, the people are willing to help if they can...and when in doubt...look for someone young to ask questions to...they have to learn English in school
