towns to visit between Prague and Vienna
We'll be traveling via car between Prauge and Vienna the three days after christmas. We'll be traveling from Prauge on our way to Vienna and have two nights to explore.Does anyone have suggestions for towns to visit and hotels to stay at in this area? I have no idea what might make a good stop. Thanks, Otis

Hi Ottis,
It is not exactly on the way, but pretty near by... I think your obvious choice should be Budapest. The three cities complete a nice triangle and you would get a good taste of the interesting, important and fun Central-European cities.
I'm sure you can find good hotels and deals for this period. There are several sites you can browse through and it is worth to check www.budapestinfo.hu and www.funzine.hu for programs. And if you are looking for a good way to xplore the city and like to walk around, check out www.walkersguide.travel
Good luck! Dorka

Hi Ottis,
Between Prague and Vienna a nice stop is a village called Cesky Krumlov. It is a charming little town with an interesting castle. A great lodging there is The Old Inn, right on the village square.
Between Vienna and Budapest is Bratislava, a small town which includes a great concert hall and also an opera house. A great lodging there is the Hotel Devin. Ask for a room overlooking the Danube. From the hotel you can easily walk throughout the town center.
I hope this is helpful to you.

Would also recommend Cesky Krumlov as a charming city that is a photographic delight. The castle will be closed for the season, but the city is charming by itself. Check any CR tour book or other earlier posts for further information and recommendations.

Notice to Otis:
"I have no idea what might make a good stop."
And I have no idea what constitutes a good stop in your mind(s). Do you prefer large cities, or small villages? History, or scenery? Night life, or quaintness? Castles etc, or museums? Art, or technology?
Shopping, or not? 4 star hotels, or cozy B&Bs? American-type food, or regional specialties?
There's much between P and V, but you need to give us some help here.

After Czesky Krumlov, which is magnificent, you might want to stop in Telc (Teltsch)...a unique little place with a lake, castle and oval town square...many lodging possibilities, cafes and restos...we enjoyed it. While driving through Moravia and the town of Znojmo, en route to Vienna, be sure to sample the local "deep purple" vino..good drinking and very inexpensive.

I agree with Cesky Krumlov not a miss. There are several B&Bs in town.
We have never been disappointed visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One we really enjoyed in Czech Republic was Lednice-Valtice. Not too far from Bratislava which is an entry point into Austria.
