Touring Tuscany area with wife and 2 yr old
We will be driving to the Florence area for four days. Two of those days, we would like to hang out in Florence. So ideally, we would like to find a apartment with kitchenette within a 15-20 minute drive to Florence, specifically on a bus route into Florence. This way we can leave our car at the apartment and not worry about parking in Florence. Can anyone suggest a place to stay that fits this description? The other two days, we would like to visit some nice towns in Tuscany within a two-hour drive from Florence. Can anyone suggest places worth visiting for a day trip? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Apartments in Fiesole or Settignano sound good for you, and one of these might work for you too.

Before renting anything, I suggest you that you emphasize to your landlord that you have a small child, and therefore cannot be too far from the bus stop. If you are planning on bringing a stroller, ask if the path from the apartment to the bus stop is stroller-friendly. Also ask for a link to the bus schedule to Florencce so you are sure it is convenient and frequent. Finally, make sure you have either air conditioning or screens on the windows.
There are so many worthwhile places to visit in a 2-hour radius of Florence -- even in a half-hour radius of Florence, I recommend a trip to the book store to begin to identify what interests you most. Remember that much of that area is steep hilltowns, with no good surfaces for strollers.
If it turns out that what you would most like to see is Pisa, Siena, Lucca and Arezzo, all these places can be visited by train from Florence -- and vice versa. You might find it easier to rent a place in Lucca or Pisa and use the train to visit Florence, etc.

Thank you very much for your reply Zeppole. Sorry I did not realize that there was a response... I am new to these Forums and I thought that I would receive an email notification...
You have given us quite a bit to research and consider. I'll let you know once I've looked it all up.
Cheers!

Hello Ariadni,
You could look for an apartment also in these areas: Campo di Marte and Coverciano. There are many buses and also a train line that brings you to Florence main train station in 5 minutes.
Have a nice time here in Florence!

Not an apartment, but here is a very nice b&b just outside of Florence, with easy transport to the historic center via bus or bike along the river-

Another thought- Greve in Chianti is a nice town with good bus service into Florence. It may be a good base for your 4 days.
This link provides some rental reviews and links to apartments-
