Tuscany Apartments - Help!

Hi everyone,

Travelling to Tuscany this summer. Looking for apartment recommendations for Pisa (1 night) and Florence (5 nights). Travelling with my child who is 6. I need a place that's 2+ bedrooms, air-conditioned and quiet at night (I'm a light sleeper!). A terrace would be awesome but a 'nice to have'. I need a location that's within walking distance to major attractions (I dont need to be right next door - but a close enough walk). Any help you could provide would be much appreciate. Thanks!

I may not be much help, but I am in the middle of planning our family's month-long trip to Italy. We will be traveling with our 3 kids (2, 7, & 10). We will spend a week just outside of Florence (we will have a car). Pisa and the beach will be a day trip for us. I cannot bear to unpack and repack just for a night or two, so all of our stays are 3+ nights.

We chose to stay outside of Florence because friends were not in love with the city itself. An agriturismo would be fun for your child, assuming you have a car to get around/to a nearby train station.

We used VRBO.com to book all of our stays, just as we have in the past.

Happy Travels

We rented a villa in Panzano from Chianti-and-More but they also offer apartments in Florence and the countryside. Excellent agency to work with, answer emails promptly.

Many apartments have a 3 night minimum so I don't know that you will be able to rent in Pisa for one night. Why one night there anyway? It's only an hour by train (under 10€) from Florence.

I'll list the apartment I've stayed in, but it might be further than you want to walk to some things (although you can catch a bus very nearby). Otherwise, it meets your criteria for quiet, AC, garden space.

You can zoom in on the bus map (street apartment is on is to the right of Santa Maria del Carmine). If you catch the D (or C3) bus near Piazza S. Spirito, you can get off near the Uffizi.

Thanks for the info. Keep it coming!

I contemplated staying in the countryside but thought it may be a little dull for my child in the evenings. Thought it would be better to be in a city and use it as a base.

re why I'm staying in Pisa, our flight gets into Pisa. I thought I'd explore it in the day, stay for one night rather than immediately heading to florence and making it a painfully long travel day.

If you are arriving early morning, it doesn't really make sense to stay a night in Pisa. Getting to the hotel, checking in, getting settled only to need to pack up in the morning, get to the station wastes time IMO. Your child is young so can't climb the tower. I would transfer from the airport to Pisa Centrale train station, store my luggage at the station, hop the bus outside to the tower and spend some time there before retrieving my luggage and heading to Florence. The last train to Florence is about 10:30 pm (there is a bus around 1 am).

@kybourbon The flight doesn't get in until 2. Wondering if it's too long of a day - I imagine it'll take a good couple of hours before I can leave the airport (retrieving bag, going through immigration etc).
