Tour throuth the Trossachs, Lock Katrine

We leave for Scotland in a little over a week and am soooo excited. Been wondering how to tour the Trossachs as the Trundler is not in operation during our trip. Now I am recovering from a neck sprain after being rear ended last week and renting a car may not be an option. Any advice on a tour, perhaps out of Edinburgh, Stirling, or the Trossachs, that includes a boat trip on Loch Katrine and enough time to explore on our own for a bit? All the tours we have found include Stirling, which we planned on exploring on our own. Are taxis a possibility - at this point, money is not the main concern. Thanks!

Where are you staying? You indicate the tour could be out of Edinburgh, Stirling, or the Trossachs - so can I assume you are stopping over in all three places?

One way to do what you want would be to hire a driver for the day and tell him where you want to go. A liesurely drive through the Trossachs, to Loch Katrine, to the Lake of Menteith and so on. You can ask the Tourist Information Center in Callander (or in Stirling if you are staying there) to arrange a day driver for you.

Thanks Janisj - we are staying in Edinburgh for the week. My thinking was we could take public transport to Stirling and pick up a 1/2 day tour to Trossachs. I love the idea of hiring a private driver but thought it may be rather late in the game to arrange for one. Could we hire a driver out of Edinburgh upon our arrival for a date later in the week? Thanks!

Probably what I'd do - since you have a full week week in Edinburgh -- early on go to the big TIC at Waverly Bridge and ask them to contact the TIC in either Stirling or Callander to recommend a driver/guide. (and you may even find local tours that are running while you are there and won't need a driver at all)

I know the TIC in Callander keeps (or used to anyway) a list of drivers you can hire by the day. OR you might even find an Edinburgh-based driver who would pick you up at your hotel and drive you into the Trossachs.

janisj: Since we arrive very early, will check with the TIC the day of our arrival. This seems like a perfect solution. Much thanks!!!
