Thanks Randy. I turned on CBS and saw a promo for it at 2:00 this afternoon. (EDT)That would be 8:00 in Paris, which seems a little late for live telecast. I'm thinking that it should be more like noon our time when he arrives. Maybe CNN will show it live. Thanks again for the help.

Oh you guys...we were in Paris last summer for the finale of the Tour. It was wonderful! The whole city came to a halt for the celebration. There were many parades and events that we here in the US never hear about. I'm so sorry not to be there today and will appreciate any input re major network coverage, as we don't have cable.

Thanks, Guys! You all just saved me at least 10 minutes searching for that answer.
Viva la Lance, the Texan!
Did you note that on July 25 he and his wife received news that his wife is now carrying twin girls, from their latest invitro? His sperm was frozen right before he started his extensive chemo treatments 4 or 5 years ago.
I know, I know. This has nothing to do with travel, but it is very inspirational.

Lance whizzed by us in a blur last summer when the Tour de France came around the corner of the main square in Le Bugue, and we thought we'd just about burst with pride. What a guy, what a race, and what a triumph!

And for anyone planning a trip to France that coincides with the Tour de France, do try to find a spot to watch the riders go by. For years I avoided it, as a result of a trip on which our itinerary unwittingly was following the Tour and we were obstructed daily by the promo vehicles, etc., and couldn't find hotels with spare rooms, but having actually witnessed it last year, I can say it's worth a two-hour wait by a curbside in a small town or on a country road.

SO dissapointed in CBS's poor coverage of the Tour de France! We can't get OLN on our cable and couldn't find anything on ESPN 1 or 2 or the regular channels. Although we were thrilled with Lance's victory, CBS coverage was totally skewed to the USA, just as network news is. No wonder other countries accuse us of being egotistical!
The coverage here was 'totally skewed' toward Armstrong because he is a cancer survivor who dominated the field and became the first American to win the event three straight times. In other words, a great story. (Who would you have the media cover, Didier Rous?)

And, face it, few in America care about the Tour de France except when a great story like Armstrong or Greg Lemond comes along - another reason the event is covered here the way it is.

As for that being 'egotistical,' every country covers its own athletes more heavily when they do well - or even when they don't. Check out the way Tim Henman is covered in Britain during Wimbledon or the reaction in Croatia to Goran Ivanisevic winning Wimbledon - another great story. Were the Croats being 'egotistical' too?
