So I want to see Switzerland - but with only a few days there, what are the don't miss spots? Should I take the little red train? Should I visit Zurich?

I like to include small towns in my trip and I will be traveling by train. It will be late March/Early April when we're there. We love to walk and check out the scenery as well as experience some of the local flavor. And don't forget shop!

You need to tell us how/where you will be arriving and leaving, and how many days you have to spend, and what your primary interests are. You have some other threads out there concerning other areas on interest. How do they fit into this?

Anyway, if I had only 3 days to spend in Switzerland it would be in the Alps if the weather is good, Montreux if it is bad. In the Alps I would stay in the Berner Oberland region, the tiny town of Gimmelwald in particular. No reason in the world to visit Zurich unless you're fly in or out of there.

Just returned from 2 days in Zurich. Lots of shopping. You can take a boat ride on the lake or down the river. All kinds of restaurants representing all cuisines. It's worth a stop, but 2 days will do it in that city.

ps I am supposed to go to Switzerland on Monday if I get over my bronchitis in time. I think it was you that said in a post a few days ago that you thought Jungfraujoch was not your first choice for a mountain day trip. I tend to agree. What is your choice? Thanks very much.

Mara, I just tried the slide show and it seems to be working okay for me. Internet stuff can be crazy at times, so I don't know why you're having trouble.

Yes, that was me who said he thought the Jungfraujoch was a little overrated. Just to reiterate, it's terrific and once you're up there it's just nonstop WOW! But it'll cost you at least $100 bucks and a good 3-4 hours round trip. I can get as much wow for less money and time elsewhere in the area. But I am glad I did it.

By comparison, the Schilthorn is much cheaper, about $40 from Murren, and takes much less time, about 1.5 hours round-trip from Murren. Of course, it's not as spectacular as the Jungfraujoch, but if you take the cable car back to Birg and hike the rest of the way down, you'll be collecting lots of wow while the Jungfraujoch visitors are spending a couple hours riding a train in a dark tunnel.

I've never done the Matterhorn or Mt. Blanc.
