This has been a fun thread to read and remenisce by. I visited Paris this summer, for a very short 21/2 days. But saw and experienced a lot during that time. I don't remember anyone mentioning a cruise on the Seine in their lists. This was a highlight of my trip. I took the evening dinner cruise and, yes, it is expensive. But I was so glad I did it.

Neal, I think the Opera has been cleaned. I saw it on two occasions, once it was surrounded by scaffolding and on the last day of my trip we drove by it again and the scaffolding was gone and it was BEAUTIFUL!

Also, I think the Orangerie Museum is temporarily closed for remodeling at this time. But this may be old information.

Laura, I liked Paris in the evening most of all. I loved the lights, the fountains, the beautiful architecture all over the city. I walked many miles but never felt tired from it. You will have a wonderful time.

Sandi
We were in Paris in May and will be going back again this May for the things that we missed. We visited the eiffel tower during the day and loved it. We really enjoyed walking along the banks of the Seine and taking the touristy boat rides. The one thing that was unexpectedly beautiful was the scene of Eiffel Tower at night from a river boat. As you cruise along the river, you can see the tower lit in the distance, getting closer, then you lose sight of it as the boat goes around a turn. When you emerge from the curve in the river, the tower is standing before you with lights blazing. It was one of the most spectacular sights that I can remember, now that was Paris. Enjoy a great city.

All of the above....

One thing that was definitely a highlight for me was attending a concert at Ste Chapelle. Not only was the string orchestra beautiful, but to be sitting in an enchanting room as the setting sun glowed through the stained glass windows, words can't express. I'll never forget it as long as I live.

This has been a wonderful thread, brought back lots of memories - must do it again soon. Pay particular attention to Neal Sanders thread. He's talking about the "flavor" of Paris of being there. Try to intersperce his suggestions between museums and churches and just enjoy Paris.

I don't have any additional sites, but I don't think anyone has mentioned something you should get, which is the Museum Card. It's a pass (1-day, 3-day or 5-day, I think) that you can purchase at tourist offices in Paris. If you're planning on going to several sites, you definitely get your money's worth. The card covers the admission to almost all of the sites and museums mentioned (the only exception I can think of is the Eiffel Tower)AND the best part is there is a separate line (or lack of a line) everywhere for people with the card. I went to Paris a few years ago; there was a line a mile long at the Louvre to get admission tickets, but we just waltzed right in past the crowd. We felt like we were getting away with murder! It was great! We had similar experiences at the Arc and Musee D'Orsee.

I think everyone above has said it all, so I will just concentrate on my short "you can't go to Paris and miss this or you'll kill yourself" list, in no particular order: Sainte Chapelle, the Cluny museum, taking an entire day to walk up through Montmontre to the top of the hill (Michelin has a great itinerary for this), a nighttime cruise on the Seine (I like the Vedettes du Pont Neuf, they're much smaller boats that the typical Bateaux Mouches), the Place Dauphine and the little Vert-Galant park at the very tip of the Ile de la Cite, the gardens of the Palais-Royale.
