To Mephisto or Not to Mephisto.....

I do not know of a Mephisto store on Rue Jacob (a great oil store, yes), but ther is one nearby at 78 rue Saints Pere (7e). Ther is another Mephisto store at 101 rue Convention (15e). There is also one on rue General LeClerc (can't remember the arrondisement). Each of the Mephisto stores seems to have different stock. The two Mephist stores do detaxe, but the store on rue Cler does not (though they are very nice and have given us polishes and laces free of charge). Personally, I think the folks on rue Cler are much nicer than the ones at the Mephisto stores - just my opinion. I can't wait to go back and get another couple of pairs.

Haven't personally owned Mephistos, but am familiar with numerous other brands mentioned on this thread and others previous.

To "g" from 8/30: no comparison between Merrell jungle mocs ($65) and Lands' End fakes ($30). Lands' End has a very plain sole and Merrell has little shock absorbers that I find give me a really sure-footedness. (However, the sandal slides of the two companies are very similar.)

I also have some Merrell walking shoes. Paid $45, reg. $60. Love them!
In a recent issue (in the last couple of months) Consumer Reports rated walking shoes, from el-cheapos up to and including the top end like Mephisto. I think you will be surprised by their findings. Mephisto did not finish too high in the rankings.

A brand that I have really loved is Josef Seibel of Germany. Tres comfortable and wear like steel.
