Titisee or Schluchsee for Black Forest Cake?

We will be visiting the Black Forest region in mid-late October and will be taking the Hollentalbahn from Freiburg. We would like to get off at either Titisee or Schluchsee to have a piece of Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte and a quick walk-about (perhaps a Geocache).

QUESTIONS:

Which town would you pick, and why?

Any recommendations for a place with good Black Forest Cake?

If we got off at Titisee, then returned to Freiburg, would we be missing any "spectacular" scenery by not continuing on to Schluchsee, then returning to Freiburg?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. Peace, Robyn >-

I've never been to Titisee but was in Schluchsee for a wellness weekend last November. Didn't like it much really. The lake was low and not pretty. The villages along the lake were not quaint and I didn't like our wellness hotel either.

I've heard great things about Titisee though and most of my friends agree it's much nicer there.

Good biking trails all around if you're into that.

Titisee has a beautiful lake and it's a very busy tourist center. Lots of shops selling knick-knacks made in China. That said, it's still a lovely lake. I didn't eat Schwarzwalder Kirchtorte while in either place, so I couldn't give you a recommendation.
Schluchsee is a lovely lake also. It was quieter and had a campground very near the lake. A nice walking path surrounds it. Not quite as commercial as Titisee but nice. We actually did both in one day and ended up staying in Titisee at a little gasthaus.
It was an incredible drive, even if we hadn't made it to the lakes.

It could be me, but I went to Titisee with high expectations and was quite disappointed. I have seen many, many more attractive lakes. Perhaps that comes from growing up in the Canadian Rockies
