Time Share on the Amalfi Coast

Has anyone stayed at a hotel on the Amalfi Coast (preferably Sorrento or Positano) through RCA? A relative is letting us use their timeshare for a honeymoon gift and we plan to go to the Amalfi Coast. I haven't looked at the book yet and do not know what's available yet, but I have heard that you need to be careful when searching for a hotel in Italy. I'd like a nice hotel with a view and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations.

Allison, I can't help with information about specific places, but you might want to know that getting an exchange in Italy through RCI is very difficult. I had searches going on for over three years for over a dozen places (including some on the Amalfi Coast) and never got one exchange. The time shares in Italy are small properties, or even if they're a little bigger, only a few rooms are available for time share exchange. If your honeymoon is in the coming year, you probably have very little chance of actually getting an exchange in that area. Sorry to be discouraging, but didn't want you to get your hopes up.

Allison, put your request in ASAP. We tried to use my inlaws timeshare through RCA for our honeymoon 5 years ago and put in our request the first day possible and didn't get anywhere. We told them over a dozen places in Germany, France and Italy and didn't get one.

There are alot of time share facilities in Spain, esp Costa del Sol. We had a nice time there but it is NOT the Amalfi Coast, very different experience. Not sure there are any time share properties in the AC area. Austria has some time shares in the mountains but many of the prime tourist destinations in Europe do not have this type of accommodation. We tried to get our timeshare through Interval International for the Amalfi Coast and never got that so we ended up paying for hotels for all of it because it never came through. I would not plan on it.....

You might check out tug2.net as well--they might have more info on this.

OMG, you guys are getting me paranoid. I have requests in for 2 places with II for Venice. Has anyone had good luck with this? (Guess I should check out tug2 as well).

artlover, I am a member of TUG as well. The best advice they can give you is to get your search in as far ahead as possible. However, in Italy, this will not necessarily help, as my experience and that of many others has shown. I definitely would not count on getting an exchange in Venice, it's almost impossible. Sorry to tell you that!

My parents used their Interval International account to reserve a timeshare for the whole family in Schladming, Austria. A totally different setting than the Amalfi Coast, of course, but it was a charming town in a gorgeous mountain setting, an hour from Salzburg. We'd do it again in a heartbeat.

SusanP,
Thanks for the information. Guess I better start considering other alternatives soon.
Allison12,
As others have suggested, you should put in your request ASAP, and also, keep Spain in mind as an alternative. I believe the Marriott in Marbella is also a property in RCA and it is really gorgeous and is a great base for lots of wonderful daytrips such as Granada (Alhambra), Nerja, Ronda, and the white villages.
Good luck and congratulations.
