Tight Connection in Madrid

I will be travelling to Lisbon in January, with a connection in Madrid. The problem I think I may face is a too short connection on the way home. I will be returning from Lisbon on a Span Air/ TAP Portugal codeshare in T2. My outgoing flight is on American, in T4. I am only bringing carry-on luggage. Do you think there is any way I can make the flight in 1 hour and 20 minutes? I am healthy and can walk really fast! Any advice or comments, please?

T2 and T4 are NOT that close to each other. There is a free airport shuttle between terminals, but having been there in May 2010 for the 1st time, the terminals seemed quite far apart and not that walkable. BUT I do think with the shuttle you could make it. Have you checked out the online airport map?

I did see the map, Isadore. I also read another post that suggested I walk to the end of the terminal, then take the shuttle to T4 from there. Do you think that would be faster than riding the shuttle the entire way from T2?

The shuttles run often and are faster than walking; the airport is very well signed and there are even digital indicators telling how long it will take you, in minutes, to reach various destinations within the airport.

For two consecutive years I have made connections of 65 minutes or so, involving a change in terminals, with time to spare.

Again, no guarantees.

Please see opening chapter of one of my (2008) trip reports, discussing a 70-minute Iberia connection at Barajas:

You can make it from T2 to T4 in time but the challenge will be to get through security after you check in w/American.
