Barb-
Bravo, loved every bit of the story. Good for you getting your groove on with your Italian NHF. I'm only sorry to see the story end. Please promise to share all of your trips on Fodors. You honestly have a wonderful sense of humor and have done a lovely job of painting each scene for us.
thank you!
PS What will I read tomorrow??

Barb, thanks for a most enjoyable read. I was glued to your trip report. And thanks for finishing it so fast. We have been talking about it on the Slow Travel message board too!!
You are most welcome to post it on Slow Travel as a trip report, but I agree with everyone here - get it published (maybe send it to a magazine?)
Pauline

Barb,
Thank you sooooooooo much for your great trip report. I was speaking to a friend and I had mentioned going to Rome next year, she said oh we should go together!! After reading this it's a definetly a no go. She has a few control issues of her own!!
P.S. U go with your bad self and your NHF.. I am tired of seeing this tired old haggared 80 year old men with 20 somethings on their arms..
I think Gabrielle's gardner from Desperate Housewives should play your NHF!!

Fabulous!
And I think there is potential to market the film version as an instructional tool for therapists in training. The subtitle that has been running through my subconscious is "Anxiety Fest, the Movie" or * The Autumn of My Menopausal Italian Vacation.* This story could be the perfect vehicle for teaching about anxiety as an underlying motivator for so many behaviors. Students could learn to write psycho-social assessments, necessary in the mental health field, based on these colorful characters. And then the Diagnosis....!
And, yes, I do know that it may not be PC to comment on hormonal influences in our lives, but I gotta wonder about the role that Stage of Life plays in folks' tolerances for new experiences and things unaccustomed. Some become more and some less tolerant.
Aren't human beings grand?

I, like your other fans, regret the story has come to an end. However, your ending was superb...loved the call from NHF and your wrap up of the Divas.
This is what life is made up of-memories...some good and some bad.
The best to you.

Barb, you really should consider slapping a copyright on your story and shopping it around. Someone like Michael Patrick King (formerly exec producer of Sex and the City) would just have a ball with it. And if Bette is not available for the Eiffel part, consider Dolly Parton. And don't ask me why, but I keep seeing Michelle Pfeiffer as Barb.
Boundless gratitude for the entertainment you have provided!

Barb, what can I say? Everyone already has said it. You have a large fan club as I am sure you noticed! A book, a movie, I can imagine what a hit each would be. And the ending of your trip report is precious. I am glad you got on the plane with a smile. Mille grazie!

Now that you have become my nightly habit, Barb, I just don't know what I will do tomorrow night.....maybe ambien will have to fill in for you!
Even though your report is now officially over maybe your could come up with some sequel episodes that you forgot about or that you skipped over early on in your report, before you knew that you had throngs of people hanging on your every word...We need more!!!
Any chance for a digital online picture album?
If this truly is THE END I have to thank you for your generous spirit in telling this tale, and rising above all the 'nasties' that come out of the woodwork...I've experienced a few of them myself, and found them quite upsetting.
You have an exceptional gift of writing and if you haven't already pursued it you should! And if you have anything published you must share your byline with all of us here at fodors so we can follow your journeys to come.

As Lawrence Welk would have said.... Wunerful, Wunerful, Wunerful!
Even tho this thread has about a gagillion replies, I want to read your entries again.
I vote for Diane Wiest for the "Barb" role.
Many thanks!

Barb-
What a great report! While it didn't turn out the way you would have liked, there are memorable experiences the DIVAs created that will crop up in your conversation in the future and it will bring a smile as you recall the incident.
Some of our best travel stories the ones where we got lost or did something embarrassing, or things just did not go right. I think you have topped the list!
Thanks for sharing your very unique trip!

I stumbled onto this thread while searching for winter-vacations and what an amazing read! I just could not stop reading till I got to the end. You truly are a very gifted writer.
I just came back from a paris trip with an old friend, and yes, there were moments when I gritted my teeth. We talked about it and decided that we needed to have some time-outs where we did our own thing. Still, I decided I will be travelling solo in the future, even if there are moments where I really want to share it with someone.
