Google maps continues to update and upgrade their satellite images. I was actually trying to find the town of Huerth, the home of race driver Michael Schumacher, which is located near Cologne.

After locating it on Google maps I then clicked on the link for satellite images and was thoroughly amazed. You can zoom in on ships and monuments along the length of the German Rhine! A handy little window in the corner of the image now gives you an idea of exactly where you are in Germany.

Try zooming in on the Deutsches Eck where the Rhine is joined by the Mosel River in Koblenz. Not only can you see the monument and cruise ships docked alongside, but you can see the difference in the color of the water when the two rivers meet.

Further upriver (heading South) I was able to pick out numerous castles along the Rhine. It's kind of like a virtual vacation for a geography nut like myself. It won't be too long until we'll be seeing LIVE satellite images on the net.

I couldn't find exact location you were talking about, but Venice is pretty neat, too.

You can see coco's apartment in Dijon.

Maire - you're right. Venice is incredible. You can zzom in on the pigeons! (almost). But you can see the tourists standing around in Piazza San Marco.
