Things you take on the airplane

I'm looking for an old thread where people listed the stuff they like to have with them on the airplane.
St Cirq reported 'a gripping novel' which is probably the quote I use most often as well as the most heeded advice in my life.
I'm pre-trip and am getting all my goodies together, wanted to scan everyone else's ideas.

I'm taking Cara Black's new book, Murder in The Latin Quarter.
but if there's a good French film, I'll be watching that.
I take things like roasted almonds to nibble on while watching the films.

Ear plugs or in-ear headphones. You don't have to listen to iPod, use them to cut down airplane noise.

I lost the plugs for my headphones in Rome and I looked all over the place for reasonable replacements before my return trip.

Can't imagine flying without them.

I take lots of snacks-chips, chocolate, banana-nut muffins with peanut butter spread on them, a banana, mints. And I have to have my Burt's bees lip balm, hand lotion, and socks. I watch whatever movies are provided.

1) foam earplugs, eye mask, inflatable neck pillow - all 3 together to ensure some sleep on the flight over.

2) warm socks

Hi,
Are you allowed to bring snacks in your carry on? Do they have to be bought after you go through security? I know you can't bring liquids but I don't know about the snacks. We're flying from LAX.
Thanks,
Michele

I'd take my pashmina shawl or wear a fleece jacket as sometimes the blankets are scarce and lately I'm not sure I'd like to use an airline blanket. Earplugs, a good book, eye mask, warm socks /or slippers and inflatable neck pillow are all excellent suggestions from other posters. Not sure I agree about bringing so many snacks- be careful of foods that have odors that may bother those with allergies (peanut especially). Dried fruits and granola bars may sustain you. Have a wonderful time.

michele_d - snacks, sandwiches, other food items are okay to take thru the security for carry-on. Liquids must be in 3 ounce containers only.

Snacks are allowed on all the flights that I have been on. You do not have to wait til you go through security unless you mean drinks and no puddings or cups of peanut butter unless you place them in your zip-lock baggie. And the 3 ounce size, not that anyone has ever taken my peanut butter out of the baggie and checked it.

assuming this is a long overnight-type flight:

1. neck pillow
2. socks
3. ipod and earphones
4. crossword puzzle(s)
5. good boock
6. ambien

but i love the idea of an eye mask. will try that next time.

Bring an empty water bottle and refill after you get through screening-alot cheaper than buying the water at the concession stand.

Cup of Noodles. When I'm hungry and the airline food isn't edible, I just ask for hot water and I take out my plastic spoon. It's gotten me through a many of my 17-hour non-stop flights. Smiles. Happy Travels!

eye mask is key IMO. Even though the cabin light is dimmed, you'll never know if your row mate or folks in front/behind you would turn on their reading light during the flight. Or heaven forbid you fly in planes that show movie on a main screen, the flickering light from the movie is a nightmare if you try to sleep.

Basically, ear plugs, eye mask, and inflatable neck pillow all 3 together takes up so little space (size of a men's wallet); and they make one's flight so much more pleasant.

A good book is essential for me. I need plenty of entertainment, so also my MP3 player and a game or two. I usually take some snacks with me as well, just in case I can't eat the food on the plane.

I took Maribels Guides to read & re-read!
antibacterial wipes to cleam off gross stuff like tray table.
Wipes for face
cream to moisturize hands & lips
pashmina or blankie
airborne or similar
a mindless but interesting article or book to rest my brain from all the planning

Dutyfree,
empty water bottle is good idea.

I take:
IPOD with Music and Books on Tape ( I like this better than a book you have to carry)
Neck Pillow
Eye Mask
Earplugs
Blanket
Crossword
eyedrops
toothpaste/brush
mints
glasses

Granola Bars/dried fruits
carrot/celery sticks
Chocolate

************

+++++Different Topic++++++

I find that having a beer/wine/coktail makes me feel sick when I fly.
Does it you?

A bit of dental floss. I can't resist the warm nuts & then can't stand having the bits & pieces stuck in my teeth. A toothbrush & paste helps but it's not enough.

No eye masks for me. I can't stand them. No ear plugs, or pillows or anything like that. I've tried them and still can't get comfortable or sleep so I have given up on them all.

I take a good book or two, a puzzle book and maybe a couple of magazines which don't require so much concentration. My camera goes on board so I'm limited in what else I can carry. A bag or two of mixed nuts or similar, some hand wipes and toothpicks go too. Oh and my glasses of course.
Now I have a Nintendo Ds that will probably go too
