We will be going to Provence the end of May for 8 nights. Have hotels for 4 nights each outside of Gordes and near the Pont du Gard. We also have a car. I was in Provence briefly a few years back so I know the country is beautiful and am looking forward to returning. We prefer to stay away from the larger cities so would like recommendations on the "best" of the small villages. Also any restaurants that stand out, winerys, and best places to get olive oil. Thanks.

we stayed in St Remy for part of our honeymoon and it was fabulous. One of the best restaurants i have ever eaten at was in Les Baux at L'Oustau de la Baumaniere - be prepared to spend some money though. Visit Les Baux even if you don't eat dinner there. It is facinating and a marvelous view!

In Arles there is a wonderful ice cream shop, actually sorbets- Soleilis. It's the best I've had anywhere including the gelato in Italy.

Go to the wonderful village of Uzes. It is near Pont du Gard. This was my favorite village. The Staurday market is wonderful. There are a lot of winerys in Chateau d'Pape near Avignon. Forgive my spelling. Have a great time.

It is me again. We rented an apartment in a small town called St. Quentine La Poterie, 3 miles from Uzes. In this small village there was a restaurant that looked wonderful, but we were unable to go. The web site is www.table-horloge.fr It's reputation is for super Provence cooking. You need reservations and it is about 30-40 Euros per person without wine. Has anyone eaten there? Look at the web iste and see what you think. It is one of my disapointments that were didn't dine there. Also this little village has about 20 pottery shops where the potters make what they sell. It was not traditional pottery and quite interesting.

Hi Nat04....We had a little stone house for a week in Uzes which has been mentioned above.I can really recommend this village but please make sure you are there at the weekend for the best food markets I have ever seen ( on Sundays the same place changes to a flower market)Bon voyage and enjoy!

From Gordes, you are surrounded by gorgeous villages. In no special order: Roussillon, Menerbes, Lacoste, Saignon, Oppede-Le-Vieux, Isle-Sur-Sorgue, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Pernes, and St. Saturnin. I am partial to the latter, as that's where we live - but all are very pretty and very different one from the other. Also, I am in the middle of putting together a guide to local winaries.
