Yes, Lobo, I believe that was my port you were drinking. I remember everything; and yes, Matt, I really do remember the sixties.

And our gathering last night was such fun, and such a wonderful cultural experience on so many levels, that I will remember it for a long time as well. More to follow when I am back home.

I love the internet.

Matt & Lobo:

I just sent you an email. Let me know if/when you get it and what you think.

Firstly, what a good evening yesterday was, from the motley collection of drowned rats at the start to the rousing Fado finish - yes indeed such a great night and conversation was perfect: I'll get round to writing up the report and sorting photos later, (taking out any which may be incriminating... Nikki, I really enjoyed chatting with you throughout the evening and I'm glad that there is someone else to reassure everyone I'm not mad...

David, got your email: we really think on the same level though of course not knowing one another - I had been considering doing something like this for a while, both in Lisbon and further afield in Portugal - though I was not planning for GPS - hell I hardly ever use my mobile phone!

I really must get round to sorting out some kind of website full of Lisbon's secrets that you won't find on other sites/books, but then they won't be secret anymore.

Matt

Nicki, friends, Loba and I went yesterday to Republica da Cerveja to a wonderful goddbye diner. The atmosphere was great and the meal good.
We wish to our new friends a safe and pleasant return home and hope to see them again soon.

Hi everyone !
I am delighted to find such a thread in here. I am a Portuguese living in Switzerland (In just a week landing in Lisbon with my kids) ;-)

I knew the Forum of Fodors a few years ago when I was looking for tips South of Rome. It helped me incredibly what I found in here as I ended up in Sperlonga, a great place.

All this just to say: Congrats specially Lobo Mau and Matt.

P.S. Made my Uni studies in Lisbon Lobo, so I should know the night life (lol)...still I guess it changed a lot.
Will try any way to have an early dinner in Bairro Alto and go anywhere where still acceptable with children...

Hi David
I new geocaching from a documentary in television. I think it's a excellent way of using available time, exploring new areas and meeting people. Ot top of that, it's an activity where different generations can participate and have fun together.
In the site you mentioned, it was exciting to see pictures of a place where I used to work a few years ago.

Inzh, what a strange name for a Portuguese!!! Anyway feel welcome to this forum, this thread, and this town.
I have one ton of questions: where do you live? where did you study in Lisbon? how long ago did you left? how long are you staying in town ? how many children do you have? ages? are they affraid of Big Bad Wolf? If you are not interested in posting those informations here, email Matt and Lobo.
Kind regards
João

Matt- Drowned rats? They weren't in the acorda, were they? I thought those were shrimp. And what makes you think I will be reassuring people that you are not mad?

Lobo- Great time at the Beer Republic. Thanks for translating the blonde jokes from Portuguese. Sitting bleary-eyed at my computer in Massachusetts, it is hard to believe that was just last night (or was it the night before, this long day just runs together, sort of like this thread and, come to think of it, like this sentence as well). Time to sleep, I think.

Hi Lobo,
"where do you live? where did you study in Lisbon? how long ago did you left? how long are you staying in town ? how many children do you have? ages? are they affraid of Big Bad Wolf?"

I live in Zürich (therefore the strange nick "inzh" )I studied at the IST and left Portugal in 1992. I have 2 kids (princess 11, "terrorist" 6 lol). They are not afraid of the bad wolf, although the terrorist does not eat red apples as they may have poison lol.

I will be in Portugal 3 weeks with the children. In Lisbon I will stay 2 nights upon my arrival and the night before I return to Zürich.
You may as well mail me if u have further questions. Regards and cheers to all of u.

I called IST home from 81 to 86 (I did telecommunications). Isn't this a small world?
Your name is "inzh" because you live in Zürich. Oh yes!! it's clear to me now ;-)
Sure I'll email you. I tried [email protected] but it didn't work. I'll try some other variations
Kind regards, enjoy your time home
Joao

Hi to all known and unknown friends. I've been not so much participative since I am experiencing my summer holidays. I should have more spare time, but even if it seems like a paradox, the opposite happens. Last Sunday I was in Obidos for a Medieval street fair. WOW! it was quite an experience. I think that more events like that should occur, even in Lisbon. Today I'm leaving to Mealhada for the pig, and afterwards to the roman ruins of Conimbriga where I've never been before.
I plan to answer to all queries, done here or by mail.
Nikki's and Namaka's report are realy wonderful and everybody is looking for next posts.
Hello Matt!!! Where are you????

Lobo- Leaving for Mealhada for the pig? Lost in translation?

Thanks for the kind words about my trip report. It's getting pretty long, and I haven't even gotten to Lisbon yet; I'm glad you're still reading it. Hopefully by the time you're back (from the pig?) I will have finished it.

Hi all

I have been away visiting my 87 year old mother for a week. PHEW - good to be back and read all about the latest trips, LDC, etc.

Lobo - enjoy your trip - and have some pig for us - it was great. The ruins at Conimbriga were very interesting and even though it was about 38 degrees out in that field the day we were there you have to see it all! The pie shaped bricks are amazing.

Lost in translation? lol
Google "Mealhada suckling pig" or check this: http://www.jancisrobinson.com/nick/nl118
We went today to "Meta dos Leitoes". Take care about drinking their Vinho da Casa sparkling red. I took my private driver to drive us to Conimbriga, otherwise I'd have to take a small nap before returning to the road.
It was 81 euros for a family of 4. It included 2 pieces per person, fried slices potatoes, lettuce salad, drinks, desserts and coffee. They have a large car parking.
Barb, you are right, Conimbriga is worth a visit. I have the impression that they revealed only a small percentage of it, but it's enough to give an idea of the whole thing.

We did go to Conimbriga when we were there, but they were closed.

The roast pig is wonderful.

Fifty suckling pig restaurants! Talk about too many choices, even worse than a parking lot! OK, now I seriously want to go back to Portugal.

Glad to see you're enjoying your private driver while you can. It is a small window of opportunity. Mine have up and driven away.

Caro inzh
It's a shame you have so little time in Lisbon. I'll email you with my contacts.
