Theater tickets

Would I be wise to pre-purchase my theater tickets on-line or wait until I get to London to buy them?

Depends. If there's a show you're dying to see, I'd buy ahead to make sure you get the day, show and seats you want. If you aren't really picky about which production you see, you can wait till you get there and try the TKTS booth or theatre box offices.

It entirely depends on which show(s) you want to see. You will pay a booking fee to order on line so I'd only do so for the block busters/continual sell outs or for very short run shows w/ major stars like the Donmar Warehouse stages.

80-90% of shows you can buy in person from the box office after you are in London, or at a discount from TKTS on the day of performance.

What shows are you considering - we can then tell you if one needs to pre-book or not . . . .

We are going to the Thursday, September 17 7:30 production of Hairspray.
Also, we are looking as to whether eating at one of the "package deals" is worthwhile. Any suggestions?

janisj may correct me, but I doubt you'd need to prebook for Hairspray, unless you just want to be absolutely sure that your plans won't change. My brother saw it in June on a Friday night without getting tickets before that day, and it's available at TKTS today, according to the TKTS web site.

The little I've heard about dinner/theatre package deals in general suggests that the restaurant may not be that great to begin with. If you list the restaurant and details in the package you're thinking about, someone may have heard of it and be able to give you specifics.

Hairspray is almost always available at TKTS -- not usually at half price, though. It is discounted 25%.

So use that info to calculate if any of the dinner & show deals are good. Me personally - I'd buy my tickets at TKTS and eat where I want. But if there was a huge bargain, I might consider it.

(sorry about the italics in my earlier post -- screwed up the "close italics < /i > bit)
