I agree with cigalechanta... we should petition!
I was on a rant just last week to anyone who would listen and no one who cared about how the Travel Channel shows nothing but worthless waste-of-time programming. I want to see adventure! Hour-long programs featuring one European city only! Not the next card-hiding dweeb in sunglasses...
I would even go so far as to say E! has a better travel program with "Wild On". At least that shows some good beaches.

I e-mailed discovery.com about a year ago to complain and they didn't seem to give a rat's behind about what I said. However, if the Fodorites unite maybe we can make a difference. In fact, I will start another thread asking Fodorites to contact them. Here is the address to contact Discovery, the owner of the Travel Channel.

Scarlett, I'm in FL (Gainesville now, was in Palm Beach) and we get the Travel channel. It may be that it's part of my expanded digital cable service -- I had to get my BBC America, so that upgrade was required

And I thought I was the only one who was turned off by the poker playing shows on the travel channel(What does that have to do with travel?). I miss Ian and Justine, Globetrekker was a fun adventure. Rudy Maxa just spends his way out of my league, not many can afford $500 a night on a hotel. Rick Steves on PBS is a constant re-run, how many times can you see the same shows. He is making tons of money and good for him but where are the new shows? Even the pledge weeks are filled with repeats. Samantha Brown is better in her new series, the old "hotel" series was too cutsey. Maybe with a little luck someone from the travel channel will read these posts and get a clue! We need real travel shows for real travelers-life is an adventure, travel is to see, not just to spend. LOVE THIS FORUM!

Speaking of the Travel Channel showing real travel -
They just started showing the Michael Palin (Monty Python fame) series Himalayas on the TC, for those interested in very out of the way places.
Can't believe they're showing this, but I loved his series in Africa as well as some of his books.
