I missed this first time around so it's good that you reposted - I want to thank you for taking the time to do that for those of us who missed it and those who didn't but wanted to savour it again.

As I said on your Tea in London report, you write so well - perhaps you should send this in to a travel supplement of a newspaper adn give it a shot?

Nothing ventured nothing gained right?

THanks Mina

Kavey

Leslie, I reread one of my responses, and realized my reply to you wasn't there. I probably forgot to add it after the all the repost fun. I meant to say thanks for the nice words about the pictures, and believe me...you would not want to read my more "boring" thoughts.

Sarah: You can do a search here for Ireland and car rental...there are a few helpful posts. I rented through Dan Dooley. The final total was $382 for a little teeny car for 11 days. That included the extra I paid for the extra insurance ($0 deductible. It cost about $50 extra for the entire 11 days, and with the mirror incident, I came out about $40 ahead. The extra insurance also covers flat tires, which I'd recommend!) It also was for an automatic, which I recommend even MORE highly.

Since you're going in the summer, I would fathom you may pay a bit more. I've seen quotes that were better, some worse. I was happy with the price I got, and coverage I received. Make sure you read the fine print. And most of the companies charge gas right off the bat...fuel is more expensive there...I paid $50 to fill up my tank.

As you've read, I was really freaked out to drive there...but it's not bad. I won't say you won't have an anxiety attack when you first get in the car though! But when you "tame the beast" and start rolling along the countryside, you'll feel like you accomplished something.

Kavey, thanks...I'm thinking about it, but don't know where to start. People have emailed me their encouragement in that arena, so I will look into it. You are right however...nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thank you for this wonderful, refreshing, funny, and joyful report. I loved it! (I put off reading it till now because I usually hate trip reports of the what-I-ate-for-breakfast and how-much-my-hotel-room-cost variety.) If you could fill a whole book with writing like this, people would buy it and read it and love every minute.

Finally I get to read the much-heralded trip report. Thanks for putting so much effort into it for us in the peanut gallery.

Glad you enjoyed Ireland so much. I just think it's a wonderful place, so much so that I'm moving back there next year. Can't wait.

Ann: how fortunate you are. I did read something on another post that you were moving back, so I wish you the best.

You really helped me in my planning to Ireland, so I'm glad you enjoyed the report. It was because of your strong dislike for Killarney that I opted to stay in Kinsale instead. I drove through Killarney and thought of you when I felt justified in making the decision. So thank you.

Mina - I loved both of your stories so much I just went and checked out your photos and they are wonderful! You really captured scenes from Ireland in such a stunning and dramatic way. You should seriously consider submitting your photos and stories to a travel magazine or at least to a local newspaper- they are professional and captivating!
