I usually don't jump into the fray betwixt two who are debating what would appear to be a moot point. However, I did recall that the OP did say thank you not once but twice:

05/24/2007, 07:49 pm
And an extra thanks to JanisJ, and Sheila and everyone else who has put up with my changing my mind a million times. And also to Trumpan who has found us a place to stay for our first night.

05/26/2007, 01:00 pm
I did get a reservation for our first night thanks to "trumpan". We are staying in Stirling. See yuall!! I'll post upon my return.

Since we are all a part of the forum to offer up our experiences, must we have the cattiness and natter?

Slan Beo,

Bit Devine

Cowboycraic---thanks for your reply. However I didn't say that the OP did not thank anyone. I said that after all the excellent advice she received, she disregarded it. She also promised to post a trip report on return, but we realise now why she didn't. She didn't take any of the advice which she had asked for.

Wow...this is a big, long thread, and it will be interesting to get a report of 6abc's Scotland trip.
I don't quite understand "trumpan's" dissatifaction . Asking advice on a post question doesn't guarantee the OP will always USE our ideas. They read it, check it out and weight what they want to do.
I think phoning for reservations for someone else ,and looking that deep into giving ideas, goes beyond what is necessary.
Trumpan has some great suggestions and I'm sure is a wonderful person.....but I don't think we should expect people to always follow our input. They are merely suggestions.
I love reading trip report, and thought my husband and I have visited WONDERFUL Scotland 8 or 9 times, I always enjoy reading about other peoples trip. (it's never too late to learn new things!)

mari5-------------I think you're going to have a long wait for a trip report from this person.
She ASKED me to make phone calls for her so of course I'm cross. She was advised that she was arriving at a holiday and then found to her cost that by ignoring excellent suggestions from people on here she was unable to get accommodation. Then because I was on the spot and had given her my contact details she asked me to get accommodation for her.
However, one unfortunate incident won't stop me from helping others as I get plenty advice [which I take ]when I am going to the States.

OMG, after almost a year I happened to read some of the posts to my Scotland trip. I am amazed, disheartened, truly upset by the post by Trumpan. I was going to let this go but I just feel that I need to post a comment to her ranting.

First of I never met the women. We spoke on the phone several times while I was in Scotland. She was kind enough to book one place for us in Stirling which We paid for ourselves when we got there. I did call her to thank her.

We lost phone service on our cell phones for part of our trip so we were unable to make calls for many days. So that is in response to not calling her back on the times???? she says that she called. We weren't even able to use them to call back to the states.

Which brings me to the other issue she mentioned about posting a trip report. When we returned home we faced many family issues so the last thing on my mind was posting to Fodors. So I do apologize to all that were waiting. But in my book my family comes first.

WE DID use a lot of the info that was posted and I did thank people along my post for the info.

I NEVER MET THIS WOMEN and do not know anybody that she knows so I don't know who she can state that In real life I a not a nice person.

I think she needs to look inside herself and deal with her own issues.

And in conclusion I once again am sorry I never posted a report but we only downloaded our pics from that trip several months ago. We are still dealing with family issues but life goes on.

Thank you all again and especially for listing to my post but I have no idea who Trumpan the poster is????? that defamed me.

Regards and happy trails to all

6abc: Please ignore trumpan's posts. Yours is the only UK thread she ever posted to. Her only other Fodors participation has been to ask 4 or 5 questions on the US forum.

Oh, and BTW - trumpan never posted a trip report after her trips to San Francisco or New England -- so talk about the pot calling the kettle

We do like to read trip reports when folks get back - but life happens. Not your fault. Hope things are better now.

(better late than never - so when things do settle down I'd love to hear about your trip)

Thank you SOOOO! much JanisJ for your feedback. Your post made me feel much better. Our trip to Scotland was wonderful EXCEPT for the migis (is that how you spell the little buggers). I got eaten alive. I looked like I had the chicken pox and I was miserable. My husband escaped without a bite.

In the evening in Skye I would have to throw a towel over my head and run into our room. They just attached me right through my hair.

Other than that it was great. The Isle of Raasay was one of our favorite places.

We went from the west coast to the east and hiked and ate and just enjoyed all but the driving.

LOL it took us 20 minutes to get out of the first round about leaving the airport and on another day it took us about 10 minutes to figure out another round about. After we finally got on our way and driving for about one hour we realized we kept passing the same gas station we filled our car up at an hour ago.

Isn't that what travel is all about.

Thanks again for your final post and for all the help last year.

We are planning on Italy in Oct. Just started to plan. It will be a simple slow trip. We are doing a self-guided walk in Tuscany (as soon as I decide on a walking company sign up with. there are so many and I really haven't gotten much feedback on my Italy post. So I think I will just have to toss a coin-they all look good)

And just Rome and maybe Assisi.

Bye JanisJ.

For future help - use Avon's Skin so Soft to keep the midges away. The little buggers HATE the stuff!

Somehow I just read this thread for the first time. I'm sort of bookmarking for myself because of all the info Sheila provided.

Little tiffs aside, I would also like to see a report (when you find time). When I came back from our 1998 trip to Scotland, my mother died 3 days later. I understand how family events can push a recent trip right out of the picture.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip, 6abc. Midges can be unbearable, so I 'feel your pain' on that score. Have a lovely slow trip to Italy...

I second the opinion on Skin-So-Soft. The midges still fly around your head and annoy the crap out of you, but they don't land and bite!

Janis - check out my trip report from our recent trip. We got to visit a few of the spots you've mentioned.

My one piece of advise that had been given to us from some people was if you were going to drive in Scotland was to get a global system for the car to help with your directions and streets. DO IT. With all of the round abouts it would have been a great help. We did not and it would have really saved on some of the stress of driving.

It was so frustrating for us that we are not even going to bother with a car on our trip to Italy.

Not on April or Oct/Nov

They really need warm-ish, calm weather to be at their worst - that really means mostly summertime . . . .

Hi everyone,

I am not sure this is the correct place to put this link because this is a Scotland forum. I never did a trip report for our Scotland trip and felt very bad about that because so many people had helped us. As time went on alot of the memories faded and I hadn't kept the best journal. There was a lot going on when we returned from this trip so the journal was the thing that suffered.

So....if anyone is interested

We went to Italy this fall Oct 08 and hiked through the hilltop towns of Tuscany on a self-guided hiking trip. I promised a trip report and I am in the process of posting it right now.

You are a welcomed to read it if you would like. I am still writing it.

Here is the link...
