OK, Lauren, let's just spell it out. You posted your "why would anyone care" remark to criticize sfowler for starting this thread in the first place.

I posted my "why would anyone care if someone else cares" remark to point out that your remark was far from innocent.

Of course you have the right to post your opinion, but so does everyone else. You attack this thread for being pointless, and then you defend your right to post your opinion -- ever hear of the golden rule? Do you really want someone to go back over your posts and bring up examples of those that have no relevance to "the planning of vacation travel?"

Why would you bother to read and post on a thread that you think is "utterly pointless," unless you just want to put down the original poster? Last time I looked, no one had appointed you forum editor. If posts are silly and pointless and no one is interested, then no one will respond and they will drop off the screen. If they are offensive, the real forum editor will delete or freeze them.

I have no prior negative history with you, Lauren, and anyone on here knows that I do not have the habit of picking random fights. But your grumpiness and vendettas against specific posters sound a very sour note indeed. This forum is not a competition of any sort, so why do you care what other people say if it doesn't concern you? Why not just take the high road and ignore what you do not like or find of no interest?

1. Not an attack post. As you say frequently, "I am entitled to post my opinion."

2. Concise? Look who's talking!

3. "I do not think people should start threads simply to be the center of attention." What was the purpose of your eclipse story? In what way did it assist others in travel planning?

4. There is a forum editor who has responsibility for keeping this board travel-oriented. You are not that person.

5. That's MY opinion and I do not care if YOU like it or not.

Perhaps the purpose of this thread is just to amuse as well. There are often threads on the subject of this forum, as opposed to the subject of travel, and they seem to be ok with the fodors editors.

It's not as if there is a limit on the number of possible threads. In what way does a thread like this harm you? Again, why don't you just ignore what you don't like/aren't interested it?

First we had tit, followed by tat, then tit, then tat again, tit, tat, again it was tit's turn, then tat, tit followed, once more tat, again tit ... that's where I got lost. Is it twat's turn again...?

Oh God. I put a meatloaf in the over and I come back to this???

Lauren. My email is [email protected]. You have an issue with me -- that's the place.

I cannot tell you how I am biting my tongue. The reason I am is because I would like to hear from the oldsters on the forum and I'd rather not have this deleted. But don't push me much further...

LOL! I'm "tit" -- that's for sure.

We're also off to a (travel-related) dinner party (guests of honor are visiting from India), so my end of this intellectually elevated debate is over.

Before I read the rest of this thread, I tried to remember the origin of the term. I definitely rememver it being used in reference to the early get-together, which was the one you mentioned, in Paris. I would have guessed that it was Monica who coined the term (she was the one organizing the get-together, I think?), but I'm more than willing to believe it was you. I'm sure you've got the timeframe about right. I was reading this site a lot right around then, although not posting much.

I was unable to find any evidence to suggest it was anyone but you.

Now, can you find the posting that first mentioned the "crispy pink" running suits? I think it was Elvira, but I can't find it....

Lauren,

>>Personally, I think we should stick to asking and replying to queries about T-R-A-V-E-L.<<

Take your own advice, 95% of the time that you post a message it is to fight with someone else, I've hardly seen anything of yours that is about travel.

I was going to leave sleeping dogs lie, but china_cat actually posted on the question Thanks china_cat! The only pice of information I have that it probably wasn't Monica is that on the website that picture has always been labelled as "The "Fodor's 8" at Les Deux Magots." The first time the term was used on the website was for the Texas meeting in January 2001, but as we've seen the term first shows is the recorded memory that we can reach in 1999.

Speaking of the "olden days," as I believe we once were, has anybody ever actually sighted another Fodorite wearing the pin in Europe?

I have faithfully taken my pin on a good many trips, but I can't remember every remembering to wear it!

Wasn't the original purpose of the pin to identify us to others?

sfowler,

Thanks for posting your website address - it was nice to be able to put faces to some of the names I have become familiar with over the past few months.

On re-reading this (and other) threads, it seems to me that one particular poster could perhaps best be described as a Fodork.

hmmm...I wonder if "Fodor Eight" suggested to you "Fodor ite" ?? Maybe posting here is a verb, as in "to fodorate"?

"He was so obnoxious, he was deserving of a good fodoring."

or do we want it to be a more positive definition?

"After a great day's fodoring, she knew exactly where she wanted her next adventure to be."

china_cat -- that's possible

flygirl -- I always thought going "fodoring" meant being here at the forum, but I'm open

For me "fodorate" has a negative sound -- like "bloviate"? What term should we use for the folks bent on telling people how to post?

And a child conceived while fodoring would be?? A fodorling

Every day a fodorista coins fodorisms to post on Fodor's.

Compared to the other erudite fodorites, fodorally speaking, this fodorista is a jejune fodorling.

The discussion is sometimes as witty as a fodorick. It's sometimes as nasty as a fodoroar.

She frequently faces the threat of exfodorication from other more experienced and domineering fodorams.
