For church concerts, I also recommend using Pariscope and l'Officiel des Spectacles. Weekly mags you can pick up all over. If you see one of the Relais stores at CDG, they will have them. I see L'Officiel also has a website:

http://www.offi.fr/

The concerts seem to mostly be in the central areas. I've been to several. Note that they are not cheap (I remember 25 euro per as an average). But the acoustics can be quite something. Oh, and if they offer a range of prices, because of the smallness of the locales, there is no real need to get the good seats, execept perhaps for the views.

Sainte Chapelle also has a 'candlelight' (not really candles) concert regularly (Vivaldi Four Seasons seems to be one of the favs).

The only other thing to remember is that these concerts are 7;7:30, so dinner will have to be planned out a bit more.

The 78E menu is always available, although I think I've read that it might be 82E now, still a great value in my opinion. You can save quite a chunk of change by skipping bottled water and/or coffee.>>

thanks for the advice, Plafield. dare I ask how much a glass of wine to go with the lunch is going to cost us?

michel_Paris - thanks for that. last time we went to Paris we missed st. Chappelle so I'm up for an excuse to go, even if it means a late supper.

i just found this website for the st. chappelle concerts. sadly there are none there on the one night we could go, but it does show a concert at st. Ephram, wherever that is.

annhig,
The odds were small, but, yes, I have! Small place. An uphill climb from St Germain to get there. I grabbed a snack at a patisserie corner St Germain/rue de carmes.

Viola concert Bach, unaccompanied works, 23 Euros, 7:30 PM, finished past 8:30.

Afterwards, I wandered around Rue des Ecoles loking for food (perhaps Balzar?) and ended up at Chez Clement on St Andre des Arts.

There is a free, excellent concert every Sunday at 5:00 PM at the American Church. Great timing for after your big lunch at le Cinq. The prices on wines by the glass will vary at Le Cinq but not as expensive as you might think. The champagne aperatif on the other hand can set you back easily 50E or more for a glass. My husband simply asked the sommelier to choose a glass of something appropriate to match the food and specified that he was looking for something reasonably priced. I think it turned out to be 18E, but truthfully I didn't pay a lot of attention because I don't drink wine. But we did note that they insisted on pouring a glass for our dining companion as well (even though he originally said no thank you to wine) and didn't charge him for his glass. They also insisted on pouring complementary port with dessert and because I insisted I did not drink alcohol, they brought me that amazing glass of chocolate milk. Again, no charge. It is a very generous place. Just ask how much a glass of wine is or state how much, aproximately you would be willing to pay and they will work with you.

michel - well, i suppose it wasn't such a long shot, but still..thansk for the info.

Plafield - I think we'll pass on the champagne cocktail! we do both drink wine [where did that bottle we opened last night go? - i think there must have been a hole in the bottom!] but i don't think that le cinq is the place to get sozzled.
