The Hotel de L'Academie? or other alternatives....

Has anyone stayed here? I searched the threads and it seems as though the question comes up periodically, but no one has. It's a little bit more than we wanted to spend so I'd love to hear a ringing endorsement before we pay and then find ourselves disappointed.

If anyone has any alternate places that they love to stay, I'd love to hear them. My boyfriend and I will be travelling to Paris in July and this will be our romantic weekend (although, sadly, not for Bastille Day as we originally planned,) so if you can point us to anything particularly charming I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance...

I haven't stayed there, but I did consider it. After I have read a variety of mixed reviews, (some of them were a bit alarming), I decided not to go ahead with it.
(I read reviews on Venere.com, as well as other sites, but I can't remember where.)So, I narrowed it down to Hotel Le Clement in St German, or Hotel Les Tuileries by the Louvre.
Since not too many people have reviewed (or stayed) at Les Tuileries, I decided to go with Le Clement (even though it is a 2 star hotel...)
It seems to have good reviews.

AA, I thought the same thing -- if it had been one or two cranky people, I might have dismissed the bad reviews out of hand, but I thought some of the reviews were distressing -- and I didn't even see the ones at Venere.com!

We are now also considering the Hotel d'Angleterre, but I'm going to look at those two that you mentioned as well. I seem to remember reading good things about Le Clement here in the past threads. Thanks!

I replied to a similar request a while back; the original poster had misspelled the name, so it may not have come up on your search.

We stayed in a junior suite. I didn't see any smaller rooms, so can't speak to the issue some people (mostly who haven't stayed there) have with the size of other rooms. Our junior suite was a comfortable size. If you were to stay there, you might want to get a junior suite. Here's what I posted:

My husband and I just returned from a 7 night stay at Hotel de l'Academie (note spelling) and can give a very positive report. We saw three different junior suites and thought they were all charming. The room photo on their website is quite representative of the junior suite. The location is great -- several blocks walk to a metro station (St. Germain), the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay are each about a 15 minute walk away, it's a few blocks from two famous cafes (Les Deux Magots and Cafe de Flore) and about a 10 minute walk to the Seine and a batobus stop. Our bed was comfortable (good size - two individual beds put together into one), there were two comfortable chairs with a small round table, and a large desk with chair. The tv in the room was a good size. The bathroom was excellent, with white and grey marble tile, a whirlpool tub -- which was great after a long day out sightseeing. The bathroom has lots of shelf area around the tub for all your bath and hair products and there's plenty of room around the sink area as well. Within the bathroom, the toilet area has a privacy door.
The staff was very helpful and made several dinner reservations for us. Our room was clean and in good condition.
We were initially given Jr. Suite #107, which was an attractive, if understated, room. We spent one night in it and found the lighting was not good for reading, which we both like to do in the evening. (small lamps and you couldn't remove the shade to get more light). The next morning we asked if we could see any other jr. suites they had and were able to look at two more. The first had similar lighting. But Room 307 had ceiling spotlights in addition to the small lamps and we switched to 307, which we thought had more classic Paris charm and much better lighting.

All 3 jr. suites we looked at were at the back of the hotel and had windows that looked out onto no view, but were very quiet. I can't recall anytime during our week's stay that we were disturbed by any noise. All in all, we had a very nice stay.

vanne, Thanks for taking the time to repost! That must have been why I missed it the first time through.

Your report is reassuring. I'm definitely going to keep it in mind and see when it's available, vs. the Clement and the Angleterre.

Many thanks!
