Hi, Toupary - I sat to your right at the table at Harriet's. Pjsparlor, (I think that's her Fodor's name), sat to your left. My husband and I had a wonderful time that day.

Good to hear you liked the Bastide as I have been there twice but not in about 4 years. I used to stay at the Relais St. Germain and the new owner, who is also chef at Comptoir, made some good changes to the public rooms, updated the facade and of course did wonders with the food.

What did your friends think of the bedrooms--they were getting a bit shabby, but again, this info dates back three years? Last September we were offered a good rate for a 7-night stay but opted for a flat instead.

Thin, you can buck the line at Comptoir if you're staying at the Relais. Otherwise, it's a wait.

my friends loved their room, not shabby at all. It felt like it was a small apartment.

Thanks, good to know. I've stayed in probably 5 different rooms there, all nice and one or two had large sitting areas. I'm glad they're in good shape--all that was needed was some refreshing.

Hi CigaleC, I haven't written any trip reports yet--I just started posting about a year ago. Since then we were in the UK and France for 9 weeks last August/September. My DH has been back to SW France as we are looking for a house there, but I have been "keeping the home fires burning."

The trip included a week in Paris, three weeks in SW France, a week each in Wales and Cornwall, and a week split between the Peak and Lake Districts and some time in London. I have a lot I could post but at the time, didn't appreciate how important it was to keep really good notes!

You've motivated me to do the Paris week at least as we tried some new restaurants using the Zagat guide--amazingly good and reasonable places I've probably walked past several times. I should also take a crack at SW France as it's not as visited as Paris. So, watch this space and thanks.

Mimi, it's a sign of greatness that two thirds of your title (the Trials and Tribulations) amount to two or three lines in the report, while the Triumphs add up to 5000 words or so! I also note that describing all the wanderings and museum-going, you never once mention the trouble your foot was giving you.

No wonder we enjoy imagining ourselves enjoying it all with you.

Hello Cigale,
Thank you for your lovely report - You guys certainly had a swell time!
Now, Cigale & anyone else with a black eye, you should always travel (or keep at home) this miraculous product.

http://www.traumeel.com/Traumeel_com_Tablets.homotox

I only found out about it when my little maltese broke her spinal cord. The vet sent her home, (She lost the use of her back legs) and I heard about a wonderful lady who was curing race horses of lameness and putting them back into winning races.
The thing about Traumeel as well is that one can take it for a period of time before sugery to hasten the healing process.

I do hope you are well over it now and that your eye has healed nicely.

Thanks for the report Mimi. Sorry about your troubles, but they didn't seem to slow you down. Have you posted pictures yet? I'll be looking.

Welcome back and take care of yourself.

tomassocroccante, Your comment is so true! Poor cigale really did suffer with her foot. I was very concerned because it had no chance to heal with all the walking we did and it did get worse and was very painful. She is a trouper for sure!

What no one has mentioned yet is that with all the trials and tribulations with Mimi's foot none of us really noticed that the office under their apartment was a podiatrist's.

left out this enjoyable moments:
Miki and I happened into a shop with real bunnies
and held them. One was a long haired one that looked more like a cat. Parents were snapping photos of the kids holding
them. We were the only adults participating in holding these darlings who had various colors.

abby, that was an embarressment not noticing but I think it's was because we always headed in the other direction and not taking the right when leaving our building.

Mimi, so glad you had a wonderful time in spite of the difficulties. You didn't let seeing Paris through a black eye dampen the rosey glow of your beloved city.

Mimi, you are lost again . We always took a left and passed that damn place often several times a day!!

I was truly horrified when Abby pointed that out as we were getting into the shuttle to leave!!

Loved your report. My husb and I are going to Provence and Paris next week. Any great ideas about brocante, inexpensive restaurants, fabric stores, concerts etc. I love your previous recommendations. We are staying in Robion and then in the 6th in Paris. I am from north of Boston. I so appreciate your time and efforts on this site. Thank you for any ideas. Debbie

Boy am I glad to have you as a friend, My seeeing eye doll!

My favorite meal was at the Comptoir, not so much for the food but the whole experience. Dining with friends who appreciate good food, who enjoy each others' company is as good as it gets.

As Tomas always says, "life is Good."

"seeing eye doll"

grandymac, Lucky you! Have a wonderful time. I hope cigale sees your question. I tried to go to a fabric store next to Printemps that I have loved in the past but was horrifed to see it was closed and coming soon as an H&M kids store. The others I have been to are all in Montmartre just below Sacre Coeur.
