The Cat who walked across France

I bought this book for a child's birthday. It's so charming, I bought one for myself.

Could you provide a synopsis so as to add a further dimension to your comment?

I adore Georg Hallensleben's illustrations! The Gaspard and Lisa stories are wonderful too if you haven't read them (different author tho).

The cat lived for many years with a lady in a stone house by the sea. One day the old lady died and he was shipped with her belongings, north to where the lady was born. He was so use to the lady scratching his ears and strokin his back and saying "Good, Kitty, Good Kitty,"but now no one to do that and he is son forgotten( i get teary thinking about it) . He prowlas the streets lookin for scraps of food, and finally, one day he leaves and travels across til he finally reaches the stone house. The new tenant have left the door wide open, so he walks in and picks a soft spot and falls asleep...later... ?

"It would make a perfect gift."

Or a purrfect gift. I'll get this for my wife who calls the cat hotel to see how our cats are doing on vacation no matter where we are traveling (don't tell her that if she didn't call, I would )

Could the "m" stand for moggy_kingdom?

obxgirl, the Gaspard and Lisa stories do look wonderful. I've added them to the holiday list, thank you.

Another good book is "A spree in Paree." this farmer wants to go to Paris so badly but no one to feed his animals, so they decide to pack up and go with him to see all the sights.

This book is adorable! It reminds me of a book my kids used to have about an animal who was in an art show, where the pictures were amazingly similar to those of the great French artists. It gave a gentle introduction to art for preschoolers. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?!

mebanese, I don't think this is your book but it reminded me of a book my nieces and nephews all loved: When Pigcasso Met Mootise by Nina Laden. It's loosely based on their friendship/rivalry and all of the drawings are evocative of their style.

Thanks Cigale! The kitty on the cover is a black & white just like my babies! I'll be adding this one to my collection too!

Another favorite cat story of mine is "Milton" by Hayde Ardalan

Before rushing to buy from amazon, you might want to check bookcloseouts.com. You do have to pay postage but you will order so many books that the amount will be miniscule.

It is an excellent way to buy guidebooks as well. So what if they are a year or two out of date? 95% of the information will still be on target.

Warning: It is another addictive site.

St Faux (clever name!) I checked out that site and every book I entered they did not have. where amazon has mvor's pigasso meets mootie"" for $1- and they have my favorote "Yo-Yo kidnapped in Provence", the true story of David Douglas Duncan (famous photojournalist and author of seven books on Picasso)
whose dog Yo-yo( A Norwich terrier) was kidnapped by the gypsy chief of car thiefs and held for ranson. At the time it made headlines in 'La Provence. Lovers of Provence will recognize where the photos are taken.

You all have me in Amazon adding to my shopping cart right and left!! Time Travelers Wife, Running with Scissors, the Curious Incident of the Dog etc, and now The Cat Who Walked Across France, and Spree in Paree! Then while looking at those I came across LA LA Rose, which also looks cute, about a child's favorite doll, a stuffed rabbit, who gets lost in Luxembourg Gardens then goes through a series adventures before being reuninted with her little girl at dusk. The illustrations are pen and ink and watercolor. LOL...I'm trying to justify these purchases. I just know someday I'll be a Grandma and I have a Grandmotherly duty to instill a love of Paris/France in my grandchildren. Then I can be like Croque_Madame and go back to Paris with each of my grandchildren to show them the city we read about when they were young in Spree in Paree, The Cat Who Walked Across France, and LA LA Rose. LOL Gosh, the things a Grandma does for her grandchildren!
