I don't think Knick Knacks should be allowed on this thread.

We are going on a 3 month carry-on trip and need all the advice we can get from experienced men and women travelers.

clothing for cold weather (include brand, please)
shoes
portable camera
travel bag
apps

tips on:
laundry
flying
money
maps
driving
make up
packing
documents
souvenirs
And whatever else you think.

Thank you!

You didn't bother to say where you are going and when. Why would you need tips on make-up? You don't know how to pack a make up back?

does that really look like a first-time post???

Me neither . . .

Are you asking for yourself or are you going to publish/blog all these 'nuggets of wisdom' you'll get?

That's what it sounds like. Of course, you'll give us credit and a piece of the action.

We've never been gone this long so I thought I'd ask for advice here. I don't own a blog or have any desire to publish anything but in the off chance that I do, the internet is forever and yes Mimar, I will share my millions and billions of $$$ to the generous Fodors bunch!

Roll your clothes! You can fit much more that way.

Buy beauty supplies there! Why carry them over unless your skin is super sensitive!

Here are mine.

1. Compact system cameras give you near DSLR image quality but are pocketable like a point and shoot.

2. One of the later Kindle models can serve as both an e-reader and a tablet and is smaller and lighter than taking a laptop.

3. Look into buying a data bundle from your phone service provider if you think you will be using your phone for web access via 3G/4G - usually capped at a couple of dollars/quid a day.

4. Sign up for services like The Cloud so you can use free wifi in coffee shops (UK)

5. Take travel wash for rinsing out undies and light clothing like t-shirts so you can cut down on packing. I like Aveda and Philosophy products which can double or treble up as hair and bodywash and laundry wash.

5. Save free samples of cosmetics and skincare that you get when buying full sizes or scout out the travel sizes cheap on Ebay - people often sell these on when they've bought sets or kits and don't want to keep everything in them. Ditto keep the free travel sizes you often get with magazines. Good brands for this are Elemis, Ren and Benefit.
