On the TGV's that run from Lausanne to Paris in the evening, the French rules do apply from Lausanne on, according to the SBB.
There are funnily enough no such remarks (like reservation required, global pricing etc.) at the TGV that leaves Lausanne for Paris at 13x (don't know now), at least not on the SBB website. No idea whether the SBB website is in error or whether they have relaxed the reservation rules for this train, maybe due to lower numer of expected passengers midday.

Wow - thank you all for all the discussion on this topic! I had posted the same questions on TripAdvisor in both the Paris and Switzerland forums and didn't receive any feedback like this. ;-) So, what I did was to purchase the PREM fare for 45 Euros First Class from Frasne to Paris and have a printed ticket (couldn't print the whole trip from Lausanne) - I sent email request to SBB asking for the portion from Lausanne to Frasne and told them I had the ticket from Frasne to Paris and the seat number - also that I would have a Half-Fare Card. You can't buy the Lausanne to Frasne ticket online. Same story on the Paris to Pontarlier - bought and printed ticket online for 49 Euros and sent email to SBB asking for the Pontarlier to Bern segment in the same seats with Half Fare Card. We'll see what they come back with - they said within 48 hours. Again, I REALLY appreciate the discussion and help - hope this works and the remaining segments aren't too high priced.
