Scary, truly scary. We flew from Paris to Boston on July 9th, and I remember hearing the pilot say "Due to security reasons, we can no longer allow several people to stand in front of the bathrooms waiting for availability." I had never heard that one before, and I thought it was kind of strange...but now it all makes sense.

Well, I don't know what to believe anymore! On a flight from MIlan to Paris, I sat in the middle seat next to a Middle eastern man....at first I was very leary....then he smiled and was the nicest man IMO. You just never know???? Judy

Yeah, this is even more unsettling for me especially since I'll be traveling solo. I hope AF will be more diligent than NW. I hope! I know that on my Feb. flights to and from France the UAL captains announced the no congregating near the lavatory rule. Also UAL security at CDG to return home was better than at SFO.

Judy,
I also sat next to a Middle Eastern man on a transatlantic flight this year. He was very friendly (in a good way), so after talking for awhile I innocently asked him where he was from. He hesitated, then said "Dallas." He is originally from Iran but doesn't like to tell people, especially on airplanes, which is understandable.
Having said that, sometimes I feel political correctness gets in the way of common sense. How do you know where to draw the line?

Heaven forbid that any airlines do a complete security check on Middle Eastern passengers huh?
9-11 was not comitted by people that look like the Brady bunch. If doing security checks on Middle Eastern looking people offens some, well TOUGH!
Instead, some little ole Gramma type woman from Peoria has to remove her shoes.
Ann Culter? Ahhh, what is the point of this comment?
Draw my own conclusions? Yeah. WE HAVE A THREAT THAT IS STILL OUT THREAT

Hey, Ira, much as I would like to see the ever evil Ann Coulter identified as the author of this piece, I can't find a tie between her and Annie Jacobsen, except that Jacobsen cited a reference to Coulter.
What did I miss?
As to the story, I think it's a crock.

No, Ira, that isn't true. Annie Jacobson authored the article, and there are many who do think it was a hoax, but it was not a hoax-however, the situation may have been overblown by Ms. Jacobson. Annie did in fact speak to a FAM representative as she states in the article. See, michellemalkin.com/archives. also see, blogs.salon.com/0002874

If true it is a cause for concern, their M.O. is to do a dryrun(s) first.

I do not believe it was a hoax either, but I am slightly amused to see the shrill hate GW Bush crowd jump on Ann Coulter.

Any neophyte journalist working for a less-than-credible media outlet and citing Anne Coulter as a source warrants scepticism.
Keep an eye on the non-Murdoch-owned media--I suspect they'll be looking into this over the next few days.
I know I'll feel safer when the only people who are allowed to fly look like Terry McVeigh, Richard Reid, and Ted Kaczynski.
