We rented an apartment in London but check in is not until 3 pm. We are arriving at 10 am. Any suggestions for temporary luggage storage near aldgate east tube station?

If you haven't already, do ask your apartment owner or manager if you can arrive early. If the apartment isn't rented the previous night it isn't unusual to be allowed in before the official checkin time.

Train station luggage storages cost an arm and two legs - ask the apartment owner if you can drop off luggage first.

I would assume the OP has asked - would be most people's first thought

Claudina - what did the apartment managers tell you when you asked as janis says you surely did?

If no I'd say look for another more amenable place to stay.

And question for janis - if the first thought would have been to ask what you the second thought surely have been - then to ask the apartment management where they could stow baggage until 3 pm?

I would assume if OP asked one they would have asked another. But I did not assume OP has asked.

Already asked to leave luggage earlier but was told is not allowed. Asked for suggestions, none provided. These people were not very helpful...

Claudina, you might want to post a link to your apartment here, mark it "unhelpful". With so many more-than-helpful people to rent from, next time ask before you book and if given a similar brushoff, rent elsewhere. I'll bet you've thought of that already, too. I hope your time there goes smoother than first impressions.

Yes those folks don't deserve your custom - give the name here and find a new place - I can see if they would not be there at a general time but to not give your advice like janisj did is beyond the pale.

I don't agree with that being so terrible, I have known lots of apartments that don't allow people to drop off luggage early. It's not unusual, how would that even happen? All the ones I've rented do NOT have any building manager on site, it's an individual apt in a building. So no one is there to let you in. They may have a cleaning service come by, but don't know when they will actually be there. So there isn't any way for this to happen.

Yes that I totally understand - having no one tio let them in - but not being able to tell them where to stow their luggage after they asked seemed so cavalier and negligent- if janisj knew it why couldn't they tell her that?

Maybe not terrible, and not unusual for the reasons cited, but in this case they were not helpful when they could have been, even with a suggestion for the storage. Not the attitude I look for in those providing accommodation. That was my point. If someone made a recommendation based on the owner or management being "not terrible", is that good enough?

Perhaps they didn't know anywhere suitable to suggest....
