Tell me about Munich
I am thinking about a enroute stopover in Munich on my way to Madrid in November. Can anyone help with these questions?

*What is Munich like in November?
*Centrally located inexpensive hotels around $65 a night?
*How many days?
*What to do and see?
*Good Moderate Restaurants?
*Shopping?

Thanks!!

Richard: It's cold. You can expect daily temps ranging from 30 to 50 degrees.

There's nothing quite like Munich in summer, we were there in late May and it was so pleasant. It can also be quite pretty in winter. I don't believe the Christmas markets start until early December, but there is plenty to do.

We stayed at the Hotel Uhland Garni on Uhlandstrasse, about two U-bahn stops from the Marienplatz. It was about $95.00 for a double, including breakfast. It's clean and comfortable. They have a website that shows pictures of the converted mansion.

There is the Marienplatz, the Frauenkirche, Glockenspiel, Hofbrauhaus, Museums (old and new) and such all close together. Great shopping there, also. If you eat dinner at the Hofbrauhaus, eat in the dining room on the second floor, the food is better and it's quieter, then head downstairs for beer, pretzels and omm-pah-pah.

Have fun!

Hi! Just read your e-mail, munich is one of our favorite cities. Don'r know what the weather is like in November. As far as hotels, we've stayed in the Amarkt in the Victualmarkt. It was very nice and convenient to Marianplatz. Another place we've stayed is a hotel by the Train station. It was upstair from a jewelry store and it was very pleasant. we were surprised. The owner spoike an excellant English and knew the city very well. Shopping is expensive and clothes are cheaper in the US. The Art museum should not be missed. A local food specialty is Haxen and should not be missed if found. I have come to miss it and can't wait to go back to Munich for it. Munich is not an inexpensive city but we enjoy going there. alan

Richard,

I have been to Munich 4 previous times and will be there on business in September and again in November.(note e-mail address, and you can see why).

Munich is one magnificent city, large town would be a better way to put it. However, I'm not certain that November is the time of year to go there. It is often rainy and cold. My trip in November will be four days followed by quick departure to Italy where it will be warmer. However, I went there one year over Thanksgiving and it was dry, but cold., so you can never tell for certain.

Try the Hotel Uhland, they have a website, for a great little place to stay near the Octoberfest grounds. Nice hotel, friendly staff, nice breakfast, short walk to the Marienplatz and inexpensive...all that you need. Also, try the Hofbrauhaus for a beer or two, very touristy...but there are better beer halls in Munich!

Have fun and enjoy youeself in this great city!

Richard- It is usually pretty chilly, dark, and overcast more than 50% of the time in Munchen in November. If you go, don't let the weather turn you off from Munchen. It is really nice from 1 May through 1 Oct. It should be easy to get a room close to the Bahnhof for that price in November. Just go to the TI or the Euraide Office in the main Bahnhof to get a room. 3 days should be plenty for November. It will probably be too
chilly to stay outside much in the evening. There are some clubs in the Schwabing area for nightlife.
As far as sights, Lee Simmons provided a good list for that time of year in his post. I might add the Deutches Museum if you are into technology.
There are plenty of moderately priced resturants scattered all over town. Check their menu out before you go inside. It is always posted outside with prices.
Have you considered a stopover in a warmer climate? Nice (Monte Carlo), Rome, and Athens come to mind (even
Tel Aviv and Cario depending on which direction you're coming from). Enjoy your trip- Try to go to Munich when it is warmer to really appreciate the city
and its parks and outdoor Biergardens.
Hi Richard,
We just returned from a night in Munich. We stayed at the Pension Seibel which was one block from the Viktualienmarkt. We had a nice double room with bath for 159 DM, a good breakfast was included. Their website is www.seibel-hotels-munich.de
