taxi or train from orly to Hotel Residence Monge

Does anyone know the best way to get to Hotel Residence Monge from Orly airport? We will be dropping our rental car off at Orly and since I speak only highschool/college french I don't know how difficult it will be to try to catch a train to the hotel. Would a taxi for three be more advisable? We would be arriving at Orly around 5 p.m. Any advice would be appreciated.

Depends on how much luggage you'll be carrying per person. Taking the train will be easy as there are English as well as French signs, and besides, you're basically going by the destination. But taking the cab will be easier if you have a lot of luggage.

It's always hard to answer a question like that without knowing what your definition of "best" is. Is it cheapest? Then it might be the train by a little bit. There are obviously two of you, so it won't be that much cheaper. If it is easiest, of course it would be a taxi. I never noticed any metro/RER signs in English myself, but could have missed them as I know French. You will have to transfer 2-3 times to get to that location from Orly by RER/metro, depending which route you take.

Actually there will be 3 adults. Taxi seems to be the easiest but most expensive. Bus the cheapest but a bit confusing. I think I will be contacting the hotel to get their advice as to the best way to get from Orly to the the hotel.

correction - you're right - there aren't any English signs, but then again, basically they are just signs of the station you're at, the visual directions (ie arrows) to the lines you want to take and the such - you don't need English for that.

Fortunately, the word "direction" means the same thing in English and French. And that's the only word you'll encounter in the Métro that's really essential to getting where you want to go.

It might also be helpful to know "correspondance" and "sortie" but not absolutely vital.

Orly is quite a bit closer to Paris than CDG and a taxi for 3 won't be that much. Print out your hotel address and hand it to the driver.
The taxi queue is an easy across-the-street from the car rental return. They have baggage buggies also.
