Switzerland Help! Mt. Rigi and Mt. Pilatus
Hello all,
We will be in Lucerne for two nights- a day and a half- traveling on our honeymoon. We'd like to see Mt. Rigi on one day and Mt. Pilatus on the next. My question. Which of these could we most easily do on a 1/2 day- starting around 2 PM or so? Then the next day would be spent for the full day seeing the other. I've read that taking the boat is longer, so maybe do a boat leg on our full day and the train leg on the 1/2 day? Which one can be done in less time? Which one would should we spend a day exploring? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rigi, reached from Arth-Goldau, would be a quicker trip, if you are not hiking the trails.
Pilatus Golden Roundtrip (using the boat to Alpnachstad) deserves the whole day.
However, be aware that weather below, does not predict views/weather on the top! With only two days, you may be taking a gamble.
You can see real time weather screens in the Tourist Info office in Luzern's main train station and decide.
Usually, the earlier in the day you start out, the better the chance of decent weather.
Good luck!

Lucerne - boat - Alpnachstad - cog railway - Pilatus Kulm takes 1 1/2 hrs. The way back by cablecar and bus takes 1 hr.
Lucerne - boat - Vitznau - Rigi Kulm takes 1 1/2 hrs. The way back via Arth-Goldau takes 1 1/2 hrs.
There are tons of easy hikes to other restaurants and view points at Rigi and none at Pilatus.

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for the help; it is extremely helpful! I know that trying to do both on days back to back would be a gamble with the weather. We will take a look at the reports at the train station and probably make a decision from there upon our arrival. Then the difficult decision would be having to choose only one on the following day. We will be in Lucerne the first week in June, so we are hopeful that the weather will be nicer during that time than if were there now?
